Question: Would there be any interest in a Photoplasty game?

I’m also impressed, @panache45 . We have some talented people here.

As for Adobe skills, you don’t necessarily need Photoshop to play along. Like I said, any software that allows for design will work–in fact, as I recall, my Fruit Market Merchants, shown above, was done in PowerPoint. It’s just text on a photo, which PowerPoint can do very well.

I’m unsure how we determine a winner here. Maybe we just have a prompt, have some fun with it, comment on each other’s efforts, and when we get few to no more contributions, move on to another prompt. What does anybody think?

I too would like to see some @panache45 work, as I know he’s an artist.

@Spoons, maybe more people would contribute if the “contest” aspect were downplayed, or removed, and we just spend time on a particular prompt for a couple days, till it peters out, then someone could suggest the next prompt. I have a fun prompt suggestion: “Front page news headline with accompanying photoplasty.” What do you think?

You can find free front page newspaper templates online, or you can lay it out without one, using whatever program you’re familiar with. If you want to write brief copy to accompany the headline/photoplasty, so be it. I have an idea for a fun one. I’ll post when done.

@Tibby, I appreciate your comments. And yes, I’d also like to see some of @panache45 's work.

And I also agree with your comments if the “contest” aspect was removed. I have a feeling that many Dopers do not or cannot use Photoshop, so this thread has little to no interest to them. They skip over it, but as Panache has demonstrated, they might find something that interests them if they bother to click and look further.

I’m not sure where we go from here. We (you, me, @Knowed_Out, @panache45, @Pardel-Lux) obviously have some interest in keeping this going. If we’re not doing a contest (which is just fine by me), then do we ask for this thread to be moved to CS, as it deals with the arts? It would be nice to gather commentary from the community at large, and CS may achieve that. Or do we leave it here, with a changed or edited title? Or start an entirely new thread … somewhere?

I like your idea of a newspaper’s front page–in fact, I did one such for Cracked, and I would happily bring it forward. A newspaper’s front page can easily be done, in any design software, and it would work for those who are not necessarily conversant with Photoshop (as I recall, my newspaper was done in PowerPoint, as it was text-heavy). And it seems to me that your prompt would offer plenty of chances for other Dopers to comment.

No need for a winner, as I see it. Or everybody has won and everybody gets an emoji :champagne: :tada: :trophy: :1st_place_medal:
What almost put me off was the theme, I never had done a movie poster before, so I just made it up in a hurry, spontaneously. I guess it shows, but we are not being professional here, so I’m OK with that.
I don’t use PhotoShop, I use Clip Studio Paint (CSP), a software for comics. It is quite cheap and still powerful. I also have Illustrator, PAINT .NET and GIMP, but I almost never use them. I am making my own font with the Open Type rand feature, so for that I will need Illustrator, I’ve been told. But I have been doing this font for years, I am in no hurry. (looking for a hammoc emoji: didn’t find)
As for where we go from here, I would suggest we find inspiration in the SDMB Photo Thread - Show us a photo!: No contest, open themes, just show what you want and say Aaaah! :astonished: looking at what others have come up with. Let’s make an SDMB Picture Manipulation Thread: Show us pictures you have changed, enhanced, distorted, forged or whatever.

I know some like a good solid system of rules, but I really have no preferences. I just like doing fun stuff with photo manipulation apps and seeing how others interpret a given theme. I’m more of into production than ideas, so as far as I’m concerned, you can keep posting new themes and I’ll take it from there.

I like your idea about having the thread moved to CS, if a mod will agree to do so. Probably more traction there.

And, if you all are ready to move on to Front Page Headline/Photoplasty…

Breaking News!:

I think moving the thread would raise more questions, unless it was retitled. Still, it may be a good idea. Maybe best to start a whole new thread there, with a link back to this one, perhaps? Let’s think and discuss this a little. It seems clear that we, at least, are having fun with this idea, and we’d like to share it with others.

Okay, newspaper front pages. First, a comment for @Tibby–I like it! The level of detail is great; from “All the News …” to “Trump Buys SDMB,” to the copy (well, that which wasn’t Greeked). Nicely done!

Here’s my newspaper front page:

I cannot remember what prompted this–“Something that sounds scandalous, but really isn’t” perhaps. At any rate, it was the season of The Big Bang Theory where Penny had short hair, and was employed by Bernadette’s pharmaceutical company as a salesperson. I opted to go for a sensationalist daily tabloid design.

@Spoons . Very nice design, layout, and theme (sounds scandalous/but not really).

Perhaps, “Show us your photoplasty” posted in CS would be best?

Thanks for the nice comments, @Tibby .

Yes, perhaps a whole new thread. But that will have to wait until I have some time. Must attend to a few things first.

Contrary to popular belief, the original concept for the Wizard of Oz differed significantly from what went into production.
