Did you know I used to work with an Englishman in Bangkok who had such an aristocratic bearing that the Thai staff always told him they thought he looked like a count, but that with the Thai pronunciation it came out sounding like a quite different word you would get if you dropped just one vowel, so he never quite knew how to take it?
Do you think I could possibly have forgotten a story like that?
