Quick ebay and paypal questions

So I have an ebay account attached to a paypal account attached to a credit card. I have only used it to make purchases and it has gone smoothly.
I want to sell something now. When I get “paid” via paypal does it credit my credit card?
Also, is the standard cut ebay takes still 10%?

As I understand it, the payment will sit in your PayPal account until you do something with it. You can use that PayPal balance to make a payment when you buy something, or you can (I believe) choose to apply it to your credit card balance (I have my PayPal linked to my checking account, so if someone sends me money, I just transfer it into my bank account). But, you need to actively do that – I don’t think it automatically just applies it to your card.

Mine puts the money into my PayPal account and I have to move it to my bank or card. I also believe that both eBay and PayPal take a cut. Not sure the amount but it was raised a year or so ago so I stopped selling most stuff on eBay.

At least for transferring money to a bank account, PayPal gives you two options:

  • Immediate transfer, for which they do charge a fee
  • Transfer within a couple of days, with no fee (but, obviously, you’re letting PayPal sit on it, and maybe make a tiny bit of interest, for a few days)

The others are correct. Money sent to you via PayPal, for whatever reason, will remain in your PayPal account until you transfer it yourself.

There are other fees, but those come before the money goes into your Paypal account. If you receive money as a commercial entity (as payment for something you are selling, for example) then Paypal takes their cut (seems to be around 6%), and I suppose eBay also takes a cut if it is an eBay transaction. If someone just sends you money as Friends and Family, I don’t think Paypal takes anything out of it. At least that has been my experience.
