I now know that the voice of Quizno’s Baby Bob is Ken Campbell but I originally thought it was Jorge Garcia.
Are you saying Robert Mitchem, then Garner, then Elliot, or straight to Elliot without the stop at Garner. 'Cause I remember Mitchum doing those (now thayt you say it), but could have sworn Garner did it until he had a coronary.
Wasn’t Mitchum at one time Oppenheimer Funds, too?
VCNJ~
I’m just saying that I don’t remember Garner doing beef commercials…but I’ve been known to forget more important things.
I think it was Garner before Mitchum, and also before the “It’s What’s for Dinner” campaign. Mitchum was on the ads right up until his death.
I’ll add Martin Mull for Ziploc, and Billy Crudup as the “Priceless” MasterCard guy.
I’m one of those annoying people (I’m hoping that I’m not the only one who does this) who hears every voice and says “Isn’t that…?” or “Who is that?” and drives everyone around me crazy. Cartoons, commercials, callers on Frasier, whatever. I recognize voices quite easily, and it drives me crazy when I can’t place it with the person it belongs to.
And yet, I’ve learned a lot in this thread. Billy Crudup is the Priceless guy?? Robert Mitchum did some of the beef commercials? Yeesh.
In my defense, I watched very, very little TV for about 4 years, but still…
Stockard Channing does the AIG commercials. I think it’s Kathleen Turner or some other throaty-voiced actress that does the New York Life commercials.
Didn’t Whatshisname, Jock Ewing on Dallas, do beef commercials too before he died?
Also, for a very brief period a couple of years ago, Steve Martin did some spots for Merril Lynch. And, even longer ago, Sigourney Weaver did some for a cruise line, I think Norwegian.
Mmmmm…
Is it Ben AFLAC?
Lauren Bacall?
I picked up an issue of MAD Magazine a few years ago - I believe when Sum of All Fears had just come out, and they did a spoof on it, which featured the duck showing up in various panels yelling AFLAC for no apparent reason.
Of course, if we expand the celebrity voices in commercials catagory to Japan, we get to add all kinds of actors who won’t do commercials in the US.
That’s it. For some reason, my brain kept saying Lauren Hutton and I knew that wasn’t right.
I’m pretty good at these. It always drives me nuts if I can’t get one (unless I’ve never heard of the person, of course - Billy Crudup?).
Tell me it isn’t Allison Janney shilling for Kaiser Permanente - I know I’m right!
I certainly agree, FWIW.
I remember Janney doing a commercial for some cellphone company a couple of years ago. The main thrust of the commercial was that voices are distinct and recognizable, so she was sitting in shadow for a lot of the commercial, and as she said something along the lines of “I’ll bet you’ve guessed who I am”, they revealed her. She definitely has an extremely recognizable voice, so I’d guess you’re both accurate in that it’s her.
So does Tom Bodette. I was watching some nature show or something on PBS and was racking my brain trying to figure out who it was, until the phrase “We’ll leave a light on for you” popped into my head. He also did a radio commercial that capitalized on the recognition factor of his voice - saying something like “I’ll bet you know my name, what company I advertise, and their slogan”, all underlining the impact that radio commercials can make even without the added visual impact.
Lauren Hutton shills for menopause hormone replacement therapy.
They’re frozen. No preservatives required.
