There has to be a legal, moral and quick way to raise $2000, but I don’t know how. I don’t own a home, I don’t have good credit, I have nothing good to pawn and I already work two jobs. Any ideas on how or where to find low-interest loans, or some other creative way to get some cash quick would be appreciated.
You didn’t list ‘painful’ as one of your nots.
Come to britain and walk across certain zebra crossings without looking. Most drivers are shit here so will probably knock you over - a garaunteed £4000 compo I think?
Somehow I think the airfare would be a bit difficult to find…and downtown Cleveland drivers are too careful. But the way my knees feel right now, a few weeks in the hospital doesn’t sound too bad…
From the Kids in the Hall:
“I’m sorry. I just…”
“There’s no need to apologize. We know how big an ordeal this must be, Danny. That’s why we all chipped in to collect the $2000 ransom money.”
“Where did you get this money?”
“The old fashioned way- Prostitution!”
Er…I don’t know about $2000, but you could check the local universities/hospitals/pharmaceutical companies and see if you qualify to participate in any studies.
Who knows, they might find and remove a crayon from your brain and priceless hilarity and heartbreak may ensue…
Put up a website asking everyone to send you a dollar?
So if I were to do that, set up a website with PayPal or somesuch, and asking people to help fund my dream of a Turbo-Charged Integra Type R, would I have to claim it on my taxes if I made it?
Man, this idea is more and more tempting all the time. I know if I set a more realistic goal than the Ferrari guy, I just may pull it off!
Thanks, lenin but your suggestion is negated by my legal and moral stipulations. And Tortuga your suggestion is interesting, but I need something a little quicker. How much does PayPal charge, by the way?
It’s kind of funny, but years ago when I dabbled with selling Mary Kay, the line that my recruiter used to try to lure us in was that if you were even moderately good at establishing your business, you could always quickly raise $1000 to replace a broken water heater or any other catastrophe. Unfortunately, I wasn’t even moderately good.
Any other sources of ideas?
Kitten, you’re not giving us a lot to work with here. Do you have a job that allows you to borrow against your pension? Family members or close friends that would loan your two thousand? A car you can sell? A pending inheritance that you can borrow against? Artistic talents you can sell out? Skill at shooting pool? A collection of old comic books? A willingness to dance naked in a bar for tips?
No pension fund, own a car and a truck but can’t sell either of them (NEED the car, and the truck …well, I only paid $300 for it and it doesn’t currently run and it’s for my son to go to work in) Have already borrowed money from mom and can’t do it again…she’s been so wonderful, and she just lent money to my sister, and my brother is trying to buy a house. I make great cookies and cakes and I quilt. I shoot pool, but badly. I have no collections of anything old, and as for dancing nekkid…well, I’m a little too shy and plump to do that. Ex-husband gave me money for gas bill last month, but wouldn’t lend me anything for rent because he says this place is overpriced. Then he lent the last of his money in the world to a friend who owes him $10, 000 already, so he’s out. Everything I own is chipped, scratched, broken, dented, dirty, old and cheap. If I had a yard sale I could probably raise $100 on little crap, then I’d have to sell the furniture. Which is all chipped, scratched, dented, torn, broken, crappy and cheap, and then I’d have a house with piles of crap where the furniture was.
There. Does that help at all?
I’m going to have a little cry then go to work.
You don’t say why you need the $2K or what your timetable is. Is is something that could be obtained via the barter system? You do say that you quilt – it’s not a quick dollar, but nice quilts could probably be sold for several hundred dollars each. Smaller pieces could be sold at craft shows or on commission at galleries.
You say you have a son who works – can he chip in?
You may be able to get a small bank loan using the car as collatoral. Not really recommended, though, unless you need the $2K for a particular emergency, because the interest rate will be high and your net income will suffer because of the payments.
Is there any possibility of moving to a higher paying position at any of your jobs? In the long term, if two jobs isn’t enough to build a decent nest egg, then I’d look into getting the training to move on to something higher paying. There might be government programs to help with this.
No 401k? Can you take in a roommate? Or move in with somebody else?

How about setting up a webcam and charging for people to see you doing unique things with produce?
I’ve seen some really nice quilts on ebay etc. A friend of a friend was in some motorcycle race in Italy, and she auctioned two of her quilts. I think she made about six grand. These were beautiful, silk, batik quilts. I only wish I could have afforded one. She also held a raffle to win a different quilt and she sold tickets.
Not sure how long it takes to make a quilt, but they are sure worth a lot of money.
Maybe you could make a custom quilt for someone? You know, they give you all their old grateful dead tee shirts and you put them all into a nice quilt?
Jorel (who has far too many old grateful dead tee shirts)
Oh easy, just ask your folks for $2000.00
Reminds of kids when I went to college, they used to put ads in the school paper
“Ill do anything legal for $4000”
Out of curiosity what is it for specifically? If we know we can possibly give you some useful ideas for obtaining this thing or service that might involve less money than you imagine.
The custom quilts sounds like the best idea so far. If you can embroider them or something like that, you could make decorative/commemorative quilts for weddings, anniversaries, new babies and such like.
What do you need the $2,000 for?
Aren’t there always adds in the local paper asking healthy women to donate their ovum?

If you are that poor, you could qualify for student loans and grants. Go back to school and the money will start flowing in. Then use it for your whatever. They include living expenses.
