Two days to earn $100...

So because of an unexpected bill I have two days to get $100 that I had to spend on a bill… this $100 is so things going through at the bank don’t make me get overdrafted. So, what would you do if you needed $100 in a pinch? I don’t have anyone I can borrow from, so that’s out. I live in Boston so any knowledge of things I could do locally would be good. I don’t get paid until next week friday. Oy. :stuck_out_tongue:

The only things I can think of are to borrow the money from a friend or family member if you can… or you can pawn some stuff.

Well, if you are good looking, you could earn it in 15 minutes and take the rest of time off… Just keep your mouth closed, figuritavly. Hey, I speled thet wrung!

Around here, if it snows, you can install chains for 1/2 hour and bring in that kind of coin. All you gotta do is lay on your back in the snow under some flatlanders car.

If I were you, I’d sell some stuff on Craigslist.

You can just have a carwash, preferrably with bikini-clad women doing the washing. That’s how it’s done in my favorite movies.

If there were a way to make quick cash, I suspect there’d be people doing it already.

Pawning something may be your best bet.

Alternately, you could go somewhere that gives “paycheck advances” at usurious rates. They’re easy to google for, though with your timetable you probably want somewhere you can go in person.

The overdraft fee would probably be less expensive than the repayment on those horrible things, and they are a nasty habit. Sure, “only once”, but suddenly they start looking like a viable option, and they definitely are not, especially when one’s financial situation is such that $100 can throw everything out of whack (and I have definitely been there).

There’s always gambling. If you’re any good you should be able to clear $100 at online poker with no problems.

Hold a garage sale.

Can you go to the bank and explain the situation? Perhaps you can arrange some alternative, extended payment plan.

Alternatively - is it true that you get paid for blood donations in the US? Is that a possibility?

Round these parts you can donate your plasma up to two times per week, at least 2 (or 3? it’s been a while) days apart. First donation gets you $25 cash in hand, second donation earns you an additional $35 CIH.

Short of gambling, pawning, illegal activity, or a cash advance store (which you probably would be better off just eating the overdraft fees rather than using); could you perhaps get a draw against your next paycheck from your employer?

I work at a pretty small company, and my boss is known to help employees out like that when they get into trouble.

Other than that, see if perhaps you can rework whatever charge(s) will overdraft you into a delayed, or at least smaller, payment.

:dubious: you’d need some sort of starting bankroll, surely?

The sites I play you can start with as little as $10. Depending on how quickly the money can be cycled in and out, and if he can take down two or three single table tournaments, he should be set.

And don’t call me Shirley.

I have to also agree with the online gambling suggestion. A number of sites have matching deposit bonuses for playing a certain number of hands. I believe EmpirePoker (www.empirepoker.com) has a bonus thru today to match 100% deposit up to $100. Party Poker (www.partypoker.com) just added blackjack to their site, so that’s another route to go if you aren’t great at poker.

Best of luck to ya…

Don’t banks sometimes give out very small loans?

It’s usually not worth it to do it for less than $500. Having been in financial difficulties, I know.

To the OP: Do you keep a change jar? I can often pull out upwards of $50 if I wait patiently enough. Or search your house for change.
And pawning something is a good idea, too.

Internet poker?

You can’t clear a bonus and process the transactions fast enough for this option to work.

I’d stay away from the gambling sites - if you know what you’re doing AND you get lucky, you might make that hundred bucks. but they’re gambling sites. They’re set up because on average, the users lose, and they win. Same as any gambling establishment (casino, lottery) - maybe you’ll win but the odds aren’t set up in your favor.

Second/third/fourth: pawn something if you can. Preferably something you think you can live without, if there’s a chance you won’t be able to redeem it.

The “good looking, 15 minutes of work” suggestion isn’t an option for you, as you’re in Boston and that trade isn’t legal thereabouts (I’m assuming you want to stay legal!). If you could afford the plane fare to Nevada, you wouldn’t need the 100 bucks

Ditto the “stay away from gambling sites,” especially if you are new to gambling.

Go through all your clothes and look for money in the pockets. I’m surprised at how often I find a few small bills in the pocket of an overcoat or jacket that I haven’t worn in a while. Empty the change jar, if you have one. A pawn shop is a good bet if you have something worth pawning. Guns and real jewelry are good bets. Selling the plasma is a good option if available. Here, I’d have to drive about 40 miles to get to the closest such place.

After you get out of this, find out if your bank offers overdraft protection. For a small fee each month, they will cover your check in a situation like this, waive the charges, and give you a grace period in which to make up the amount they covered. Definitely worth it when the total annual charge for the protection is much less than they penalties for bouncing a check.

Have a garage/rummage sale. If you live in a residential community this should not be a problem. We have a rummage sale a few times a year and even on bad days we can clear a $100. We cleared over a $1,000 one weekend, but that was with a lot of the plastic outdoor kids type toys - that stuff goes quick and people are willing to shell out for it.
Grab all the stuff you outgrew and/or don’t use anymore and set up some tables in the driveway. Put a couple of signs up on the nearest street corners and you’re all set. Start organising tonight and you can be set up and open by tomorrow morning. You may even have the money before the bank closes on Saturday (usually at noon?). Heck, sometimes other friends/family members are willing to donate stuff to you just to get rid of it or to get a small cut of the procedes.
Good luck.

Stand in a busy public place with a sign. Will do something truly crazy for $20 You’ll see the wheels turning in people’s heads. The human imagination is amazing, and you’ll get some takers. Don’t do anything that will land you in jail; you have to pay your creditor, and you can’t do that from jail.

For example, you could hand out dollar bills to people on the sidewalk. A man who did that in Indianapolis (seeMonday Follows Tuesday) was amazed at the people who would not accept free money.
