Anybody got a couple (or more) songs that weirdly fit together in a mashup? Genre crosses, incompatible moods, huge classics with unknown indie B-sides? That sorta thing.
Inspired by me washing dishes yesterday, kinda humsinging Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff” and suddenly aware that my brain had slid seamlessly into Iron Butterfly’s “Inna Gadda Da Vida.”
What are yours?
The guitar riff from Peter Frampton’s “Do You Feel Like We Do” has always reminded me of the melody from Neil Sedaka’s “Laughter in the Rain.” So, that’d be a weird mashup.
I always wanted to, but never got around to, taking many covers of the same song, and mixing them together. You have to have a song that has had many covers, in different styles, and yet isn’t so unique and identifiable by its original artist, that the hybrid seems like a new song. I was going with Ghost Riders In The Sky.
Maybe more in the spirit of the OP, I always have thought the beginning of Heart’s How Can I Refuse sounds almost exactly like Judas Priest’s You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’. Considering Heart’s well known fondness for doing covers, the first time I heard it, I thought it was.
Whenever I have They Might be Giants’ “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” in my head, it always ends up seamlessly morphing into “Putin’ on the Ritz”.
