Quote button bug

I’m not sure there’s anything to be done about this, but I’m gonna report the bug (and then gripe) anyway, and the SDMB admin and techs should feel free to ignore this while they do stuff that really needs to be done.

Anyway:

When using the “quote” button at the bottom right of each post, the entire post may, or may not, appear in the Reply window.

The presence of absence of a fully quoted post seems to be independent of post length. For instance, I quoted this short post, and only got the last sentence.

I’ve noticed the same thing occasionally at the Pizza Parlor, which uses vBulletin version 2.2.1, so I’m wondering if it’s a bug common to the 2.2.x generation of vB software. In which case all you can do is let Jelsoft know, and ask if they plan to come up with a patch.

[gripe 14H: “things today don’t work as well as they used to”]
I don’t remember this ever happening with the old version of vB. Being the sort that considers reliability on core features much more important than lots of extra bells and whistles, I’d say it’s debatable as to whether the new version is actually an improved version.
[/gripe]

It’s not a bug, it’s just the way that vBulletin 2.x works. I informed the Staff in advance that this would be a difference that might be undesirable for people, especially in GD. But there’s not much that can be done, really - to get around it requires some siginificant vBulletin hacking.

Which I can tell you right now is NOT going to happen.

Sorry for your inconvenience.

RTFirefly - sorry for the inconvenience. You could try quoting my different posts in this thread to see how it works. When you use the quote feature, everything that is between a quote / endquote tag in the original post will be removed. Of course this will make things difficult in Great Debates. More copy and pasting, and previewing, will be needed. Sorry.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

Does this mean the SDMB’s been bought up by Microsoft?

As Heinlein said, what can’t be cured, must be endured. (I wonder if he and Johnny Cochran hung out together? ;))

Gotta say, sometimes the juxtapositions are wonderful when the post order is reversed under the reply box. For instance:
