Racism and my failure to stop it

But that’s exactly what you are doing, posturing. All this talk of being a “manly-man” is silly, and frankly, quite unimpressive. Who the hell cares that you fix cars or can open beer bottles with your eye-socket? You’ve got a big heart, but be careful that it doesn’t become bigger than your head (which according to your previous posts about vegas in the 80s, might be saying something).

Restraint and cool-headedness is what’s called for here. Don’t act on emotions alone.

Really? With his eye-socket?

I have to admit that’s pretty cool.

Okay. It’s cool. But still, that CAN’T be good for your supraorbital foramen!
.

Posturing. Sounds like something I’ll be actively looking out for in the future. You know your also making me smile from ear to ear right? I feel like the chesire cat.

If you want to accomplish anything in this world, you need to get into trouble.

Idealism without Action is dead. Just like Faith without Action is dead.

Being nailed to a pole? He…er…planned that. Yeah, that’s it.

Long time ago, a buddy and I stopped at a liquor store to pick up party supplies. There was one other customer in the store, a black fellow. Then a couple of dirtbags walk in and start with the oblique racial shit: “Boy, it sure is DARK in here!” and so on.

I can see the figurative steam coming out of the black guy’s ears, and staring daggers at the two dirtbags. So I went over and told him “I hope you can ignore those jerks, but if you can’t, I’ve got your back.” He almost smiled, said “Thanks man” and we both exchanged roll-eyes at the idiots remaining comments.

I’m not sure how I came up with that, but in retrospect, I think it was the best possible thing to do. I was able to undo some of the harm the racial comments were intended to do, and didn’t have to confront a couple of morons who weren’t susceptible to having their ignorance fought…and at least one black guy knows we aren’t all crackers.

This took way more courage than what I did. You should be proud of yourself. Like I said before I blocked it out in my mind because it was so nauseating. I have to deal with shit like this every day at work but I have to keep a roof over my familys head too. I lost one easy job over my morals and if I lose another I’ll lose my house, my cars, and most imprtantly my wife. I’ve worked 11 to 12 hours a day for twenty years to get all of it. Too old to start over.

… since when is “trying to do the right thing but being unable to finish” the same as “doing the wrong thing”?

And I fourteen or something the “Omegaman, are you ok?”

I’m fine now. The big boss is going to straighten it all out. And I’m sure he will do so without making too much of a commotion over it. When I spoke too him after we went back to work I told him that what we spoke about was “man to man and that I would keep my mouth shut”. That will allow him the latitude to wait and see if the driver will sue us.
When you work for a company you have to have loyalty to them too. They sign your paycheck and will stick by you when you need them. History has shown me this is true for the most part. More often than not, it’s a supervisor that gets you fired. And that’s just human nature I suppose. Some people shouldn’t be in charge of others because they can’t even be in charge of themselves.

Thanks for sending your thoughts from across the ocean. They made it just fine.
