I have just moved back to my hometown for a while after 30 years, was planning to stay for maybe a year. Maybe not. Predictably some residents are distoring this protest, calling it a Marxist event sponsered by BLM, and freaking out. A friend of my mom said she is going to lock her doors and her husband would have a pistol ready. And online some residents have threatened students. And you gotta love this -

A call by several people on social media, particularly Jody Pyles — a Radford resident whose Facebook video went viral earlier this week — asked the citizens of Radford to protest the protest. Pyles asked residents to “show up and make some noise. Let them know that this is not allowed. We’re not going to stand by and watch this Marxist indoctrination happen in our city.”

So suppress the students right to free speech to stop Marxism. I was going to ask if anyone here wanted to spam this idiot’s page, but I can’t find it now, maybe it was taken down.

This is even worse, from Amanda Chase, candidate for governor. A letter was written by the President of Radford University encouraging students to participate in a protest led by BLM…asking these impressionable minds to follow this Marxist led movement because of his personal beliefs! Under my administration as Governor of Virginia I would have a 1-800 number for students and parents to report any sort of agendas that promotes this sort of hate and division. I would also call for the defunding of any state university that participated in such behavior!

It is not a BLM event and the President did not encourage students to attend, or not attend. But what if he had, would this facist have him removed and thrown in jail? And I suppose she would be in favor of not letting students vote until they are 30 and have passed a test about American Exceptionalism.

You’d think so - but it is apparently still au courant in right wing circles. One of abortion-obsessed FB friends throws it occasionally, like when he said something like “BLM makes some good points, to bad they are Marxist”. I’m guessing it is a Limbaugh thing (since he also loves posting clips from Rushbo).

No incidents. I don’t know if when this was planned that the public would not be allowed, but I don’t think it would have mattered, I would have been surprised if would have been a counterprotest. Although I hear there is a chapter of Boogaloo Boys in a nearby county. But I don’t think even those dumbasses would have been dumb enough to show up on a college campus armed and threatening students. As for Jody Pyles, I did find a quote from him and he had some good things to say about racism, he’s just bought into the bullshit that BLM is advocating violent Marxism.
