Cool - I enjoy the band, even if I didn’t always agree with their politics I respected their passion and the fact that their music rocked - which, to me, takes precedence over artists making political statements.
Anyone know what impact this has on Audioslave, if any? I know Cornell is doing some on his own, so maybe they have an “open marriage”??
I had also heard a while ago that Zak De la Rocha had been working on a solo album??
For the better part of a decade now. He did apparently complete a few tracks with DJ Shadow, one of which was released on some benefit album a couple years back (I think it was called “March of the Dead” or something like that), and another of which appeared on Shadow’s latest album, minus de la Rocha’s vocals (“Artifact”).
That solo album is one of the great music industry examples of vaporware, alongside Lauryn Hill’s second album.
Don’t know about Cornell, but as far as Im’ concerned, Audioslave has run its course. Not much growth between albums.
I was a big Soundgarden fan, but I was happy with the break-up. After lots of growth from the early stuff to Badmotorfinger, their last couple albums were showing signs of stagnation.
That said, I wouldn’t mind seeing him get together with SG for another album. I think he works better in the framework of a band, though. I’m not a big fan of Euphoria Morning.
I was planning on heading to Coachella this year and while I though of this before Rage decided to reunite, this just cemented the fact. I was huge a Rage fan back in the day and never got to see them live. And Audioslave just isn’t the same, none of their songs resonate with me in any way.
Plus the Jesus and Mary Chain reunion will be amazing. Or The Happy Mondays. Or Crowded House.
Cornell did backup vocals on “Brother” and did “Right Turn” as part of Alice Mudgarden on the Alice in Chains Sap EP, so he’s played with those guys before. He’d be a big improvement over William DuVall or Pat Lachman (or Phil Anselmo.)
Wow - what’s up with Coachella - it’s become THE reunion spot. The Cure. The Pixies - and I am sure plenty of others who want come back AND be cool at the same time…
Having said all that - Crowded House!!! Don’t get me wrong - Neil (and his bro Tim) are incredibly talented and their music is really good, but it certainly doesn’t have the “edge”…
