Raiders Of The Lost Ark - what did they do with snakes after they were done filming?

Lot’s of trivia sites have this nugget:

So were the snakes carefully marked to return to the stores? Or were they just released somewhere or killed? Or eaten in the sequel? Or what?

They used them in the sequel.

Apparently, if Paul Freeman is to be believed, some of them (or their descendants) are still there.

They would likely have returned them to stores or zoos or whatever is standard practice for movie animal wrangling. A big movie in this modern enlightened age would be reasonably careful about that kind of thing, I hope.

Two words…

Snake Surprise

Yeah but, they are snakes!!! Fuck em.

That’s a lot of snakes. Did they have time for that?

I think he’s getting it confused with “Rapers of the Lost Asp”

Yeah, but in his defense, they were some mighty fine pieces of asp.

Perhaps they sent them to Ireland?

“No snakes were harmed in the making of this motion picture.”

(I assume)

They put them on a plane, of course…

Were they paid scale?

But by that point, the snakes had major attitude. They were wearing Ray-Bans, demanding to fly first class, and telling everyone, “Yeah, baby, I just starred in a movie directed by Steven Fucking Spilberg. You bet I demanded points.”

The actors outside looked from snake to agent, and from agent to snake, and from snake to agent again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

“Agents. Very dangerous. You go first.”

Fangs. Fangs a lot. Fang you very much.

What did they do with snakes after they were done filming? Well, it’s a long story. But one that’s measured in inches since snakes don’t have any feet.

Long ago snakes were defeated.

That was a great article. Thanks.

They probably sold some and get rid of the rest in a way PETA would probably object to.
