This story is just weird to me. Like, where did Dr. Fauci keep his diary, and how did Dr. Paul know it even existed, and then access it?
Something that stood out to me, pointed out in this RawStory article, is how Fauci had to take over for Trump when Trump would lose focus as the pandemic continued.
I think this isn’t going to play out the way Rand Paul seems to think it will.
When you drop a bombshell like this, you put the biggest best part upfront, and that seems to be an early discussion in which some of the people on the committee were discussing the possibility that COVID was started in a lab. But that’s just what you’d expect. People have been working on possible bioweapons for decades, and like rogue nukes, it’s something we always worried might end up in the hands of terrorists, or being accidentally released. Hell, people have written novels with just this premise.
It would have been beyond incompetent for them not to have asked those questions. Asking the question isn’t the issue, it’s what answer they came up with, and that answer seems to be overwhelmingly that COVID wasn’t a lab release, that it came about naturally.
And the parts about Trump just confirms everything we suspected about his stupidity. I’m sure that’s going to play well in the MAGAsphere.
So is Fauci going to be charged with Lèse-majesté?
I mean, he clearly disrespected The Dear Leader. I imagine the DOJ is going to be starting the investigation shortly.
Yep, it’s not only not a Bombshell, it is barely a small firecracker.
Dear Diary: Trump sucks.
I expect you’re right. But then, is Rand Paul courting the MAGAsphere? (He may have written them off, given the number of times he’s publicly opposed Donald.)
Who else would he be courting with this particular nonsense? Is there some significant non-MAGA population that buys into any of this?
Indeed. Paul really wants there to be a story in which China tricked the US into paying for this disease and he brings the same energy to it as a 9/11 truther. But he completely misses the broader implications that came out of COVID. It doesn’t matter where it came from. What matters is the proof of concept showing that if you infect the US with a biological agent, random Americans will think of themselves as great patriots if they willingly spread it around. Repeated for emphasis: there is an absurdly large number of people out there who will deliberately infect themselves and others because freedom or some shit. To a bad actor, that’s way better than a nuke and (assuming it didn’t come from a lab) way easier to make too. But there’s Paul, continuing to yap about “gain of function” as if he’s figured out something profound. Yes Rand, we’ve heard the one about how jet fuel doesn’t melt steel beams. Yawn. What else have you got?
Oh, the MAGAsphere is eating it up, from what I’ve seen. My Facebook is already full of people crowing that Fauci’s diary admits everything they ever suspected:
- That COVID really wasn’t all that contagious
- That masks were useless
- That hydroxychloroquine worked
- That ivermectin worked
- That the MMR vaccines did not work, but were incredibly dangerous
- That Fauci was lying about everything for his own personal gain, both reputational and financial
- That the goal of all of this was to destroy the economy and make Trump look bad
I haven’t been able to read any of the diary entries, so I don’t know if anything like that is actually there. But it does seem awfully convenient that Fauci would keep a diary in which he “confesses” to everything MAGA has always accused him of, cackling like a supervillain the whole time.
Micah Beckwith, Indiana’s dumpster fire of a Lt. Governor, is already claiming that Fauci committed gross negligence at best, deliberate deception at worst, and must be held accountable for “destroying countless lives.” Expect the MAGA folks to be talking about this for months, if not years.
Just remind them who was standing next to Fauci every day, nodding and drooling in agreement.
Biden!
Seriously, to a certain kind of people, what the evidence actually says is irrelevant. All that matters is that the evidence exists, and then you can just assume that it says whatever you want it to.
I wonder if Paul’s ex-neighbor got the gift basket I sent him.
They really really need to get out of the past with their little grudges.
What are they, 11yo?
Rand Paul is a joke.
Here we have the “lettuce shits” allover, people starving, unvaxxed and toting a weapon. And Trump has the whole world tied up in knots.
What is the fix? Anyone?
In the meantime, I appear to be reader #1 of this book, which I got from the library a couple hours ago. I did look in the index, and Dr. Fauci appears to be mentioned in passing early on. I also have her books “Nuclear War” and “Area 51” but haven’t gotten to them. Time to embark on some light, pleasant reading, I guess.
I was surprised to see it was available; I thought it wasn’t going to be released until next month.
I remember the commercial where a former supermodel said, “Knowledge is power. Information is how you get it.”
Amazon.com says the publication date for that book is July 28; yesterday, in other words.
I didn’t watch Fauci’s testimony before the Senate Homeland Security Committee but according to the news reports, he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights over a hundred times. It was made clear by Rand Paul and others that they intended to find any reason to claim perjury for any inconsistency in his testimony, so invoking the Fifth Amendment was a defense maneuver. It’s sad, though, that he spent decades working on public health issues and now, at the age of 85, he’s being mistreated like this.
And, of course, the conspiracy theorists probably point to those Fifth Amendment invocations as yet more “evidence”.
He is not afraid of trump, and will sometimes vote against him. But yeah, he is… umm, err… different. .
