Rand Rover: Ass

That means that other scholarships cannot legally be referred to as “merit” scholarships.

You work on deals, but you are not part of corporate law? You work on fund structures, but you’re not part of corporate law? You know about FIRPTA, but you don’t have anything to do with corporate law?

FIRPTA is a law of the US that applies to the sale of interests held by nonresident aliens and foreign corporations in real estate located within the US.

It is untrue that tax lawyers don’t litigate. Maybe there are some who don’t, but the generalization is untrue.

You keep really strange hours for an attorney. It doesn’t wash, Rand Rover.

Is pretense what Objectivism is all about? Why fake the individual that you are? That makes no sense at all.

Coughs

You might find that there is.

Try selling securities, for example.

 Obvious troll is obvious.

This is the same argument that some of our, lets say, more colorful posters have used before. If one person “misreads” with your tone you may have a valid argument. If people are lining up to tell you that they have a problem with your tone don’t you think the problem might be with you? I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you are not trying to be an asshole. Is there a small chance that it might be your communication skills?

I see no evidence that you are, in fact an attorney, RR. It sounds to me like you are a young, pre-law undergrad, or perhaps a temp at a law firm who has picked up some lingo, but no wisdom. Peddle your anger somewhere else.

You are calling me a troll for pointing out federal corporations law exists???

Yeah, after I hit submit I knew someone was going to jump on this. first, I was thinking of laws governing the inner workings of corporations, such as the Delaware General Corporation Law, but even then I think my statement may be wrong because I think there may be federally chartered corporations, so presumably there is some federal corporate law that applies to them. Second, I guess if you want to include securities lae in “federal corporate law” then there is all sorts of “federal corporate law.”

Of course, none of this changes the fact that Zoe is an idiot that is just trying to get a rise out of me.

No, sorry, that post was directed at Zoe.

Ok, thanks. Your opinion will be given all due regard.

You know I’m not your biggest fan, but you are correct about this. When Zoe doesn’t like someone, her favorite tactic is to attack that person’s identity and claim that she knows you aren’t what you say you are. She does this as a way of demeaning and dismissing her opponent, often on the basis of nitpicking you about little facts she thinks you should know, or attitudes she thinks you wouldn’t hold if you were who you said you were. You don’t need me to tell you to ignore her, because she will hold onto her opinion in the face of all facts to the contrary.

I don’t agree. If I was going to lie about being a lawyer, I would pick something a hell of a lot more interesting than tax law to lie about.

The part about anger peddling I am not disputing…

Thanks for the heads up. You know, this is a really strange thing for a teacher to do. Hey, maybe . . .

I think it would be a good time for all of us to step back and see what we’ve learned from the last 12 pages.

We on the board have learned that Rand Rover is an articulate person, passionately embracing the American Dream that all of us can succeed as long as we work hard and make good choices.

And I hope that Rand Rover has learned that being passionate does not equal being compassionate; that short, snappy declarative sentences do not equal wisdom; that the tone of the message is as important as its content; that posts should be considered and constructed with calm reflection, not dashed off in the heat of the moment; and that other posters appreciate it when we take the time to correct the most obvious typos and spelling errors before posting.

Are your pages set for 40 posts per?

If so, you can add that to the things people can learn from this thread. Mine are set to make this page 10.

From the Department of Redundancy Department:

 Welcome to the internet, I see you are new here.

ITT the question of Rand Rover’s assholeness: resolved.

Please. The OP in that thread is a hypocrite. If it were jerkish to point out perceived hypocricy then lots of my detractors in this thread would be on the banwagon. Also, Christians have all chosen to be jerks, so any jerkishness they get in return is well deserved.

This reflects a complete misunderstanding of trademark law.

  1. Ordinary words keep their ordinary meaning. If “merit scholarship” means “any scholarship awarded on the basis of merit,” to people living in the real world, such meaning is not affected by any trademark registration.

  2. The only people who can violate trademark law are those who use terms to indicate the origin of goods or services. RandRover is not selling something under the brand name “Merit Scholarship.” He’s just telling us what kind of scholarships he’s earned. Even if he’s lying, there is no conceivable violation of trademark law.

Fuck, I’ll call you a fuckin’ troll for using three question marks, you trolly McTroll, you…
