I’m giving a mini-rant against myself for being stupid. My wife informed me that our daughter needed a set of dry erase markers for school. I could have had it delivered on Friday for free, or set it for “Amazon Day”.
I have an Amazon credit card and get 5% in store credit on any purchase, but 6% if I choose to delay delivery toward a later day (the aforementioned Amazon Day). So I delayed it until Sunday, she’d still get it before the school week starts.
Well, it was $3 and that extra cash back amounts to an extra three whopping cents. And oh, shipment is delayed a couple days so she’ll get it midweek.
It’s not a huge deal but it’s an inconvenience and all for three goddamn cents. Sometimes I really am a dumbass.
I was so done in by January I forgot there should be a Feb rant.

To continue the posts about using the garage as cold storage in the winter, we do this (we refer to it as “the walk-in freezer”). Like wolfpup ours is adjacent to interior walls/floors on three sides, but I also have a small cube heater on a shelf at waist height, plugged into a thermostatically controlled adapter plug set to 5ºC. I got it at a farm supply store, but they can likely be found at hardware stores as well. It keeps the temperature above freezing.
First up is Amazon drivers who put the large package right in front of the door so that I can’t open it. I have a big open container off to the side, notated in the online delivery instructions, where it’s not visible from the street, and I can still open the goddamn door.
Next is I had to make a trip to Walmart, which I detest and rarely go to. Last time was maybe 2 years ago for a Covid vax. I live in a very liberal city, but Walmart is in the more rural outskirts, maybe 20 minutes away. Parked 2 cars away from me was a big black SUV with an INFOWARS license plate frame. It also had several stickers, one of which indicated they were SovCits.
Finally, my back went out. I already have an appointment with a specialist on Tuesday for neck problems, so I’ll have to add this to the list. Pretty sure I have 2 surgeries in my 2025 scheedule.
Enough ranting. I also had good things happen, so that helps a lot. Best is, my daughter’s 31-yr-old, mother of two, good friend from high school, diagnosed with Stage 4 aggressive breast cancer, after her 1st round of chemo and a double mastectomy, has had a complete remission. For now, all is well.

Mammogram was November 2024, and I’m about a year out from my third colonoscopy. Which means I’ll get to do both in 2026. Joy.
Hubby says he’s fine with his glasses, but we still should do eye exams with a proper eye doctor, especially as his mother has glaucoma. The optometrist we go do doesn’t do glaucoma tests and recommended we should get additional testing since we’re over 50.
I have an Amazon subscription for 37 lb cat litter. The driver always puts it on the porch right at the top of the stairs, dead center. While this doesn’t prevent me from opening the front door (which opens inward), it does mean I can’t open the screen door all the way. I have to open it as far as I can, step onto the porch and slide the box over so I can “roll” it (tipping it over and over rather than lifting it) across the porch and over the threshold into the hallway. Once it’s inside the house I can use a small dolly to move it to where it needs to be.
I have had a sore throat since this past Sunday or Monday. For a while, ot was very mild. My throat was a bit dry and raspy. It did not hurt to swallow. I did not have any other symptoms. On Thursday, I began to experience symptoms of a mild fever. I also began to have a cough.
My physical therapist called to cancel my usual Sarurday morning appointment. The short story is that due to skipping at least two weeks when I was in Fliorida, my case has been closed. I will need to contact my orthopedist and have the case re opened if I want more physical therapy.
So, I was able to sleep in yesterday. I woke up around 10 to have breakfast and take my pills. Then, I felt very worn out and went back to sleep. I did not regain consciousness until this morning.
There were many important things I had intended to do yesterday. I accomplished none of them.
Today, I have added digestive issues to the list of symptoms.
I think I have covid tests somewhere in my apartment. I do not know where they are. My beloved ordered and paid for some covid tests and had them shipped to my place.
You can get 4 free tests mailed to you with this form, which doesn’t do immediate good but will set you up for the future. With the symptoms roll out you are relating you should definitely spring for a test or two from a pharmacy and test today, so you can start treatment if needed within 5 days of onset. Around my neck of the woods Covid/flu home tests are $10 or less.
Thanks, but I don’t really feel up to going to the pharmacy. I could probably shower, get dressed and take the trolley. Walking five blocks there and five back is definitely not an option today.
I am up to date on Covid vaccines and boosters. Whatever is causing my symptoms will likely not cause me to take a sudden turn for the worse. If I do need some kind of prescription for it, I will need to see a doctor before going to the pharmacy.
Due to spending a long time living below the poverty line I am generally averse to spending money without a need. If the Covid test is positive, what would that mean? I work from home already. I am not meetin up with my beloved until I feel better regardless. There just doesn’t seem to be a point.
If it’s negative, you might want to consider a flu test. Pharmacies sell ones that test for both flu A & B, and most also test for COVID. I tested positive for the flu last week, and called Teledoc (which is cheaper on my health insurance than an in-person visit, so might be worth looking into to see if it’s similar for you) and the doctor was willing to call in Tamiflu since I had a positive test result.
Send for the 4 free tests for next time. They’ll be delivered in the mail. At least they’ll give some indication of whether and how long you might need to stay apart from your beloved when nasty symptoms show up in the future. The firm is submitted online and is really simple. I’d do it today. Musk might kill off that department tomorrow.
