Absolutely not.
In fact, no fruit and chocolate go together - I’m sick of seeing what would have been perfectly lovely fruit and absolutely delicious chocolate being mixed in some kind of evil combination together.
Ick.
I love chocolate and I love fruit. But not together.
Raspberries are an abomination! Raspberries are an invention of Satan. That could explain why it appears a number of dopers like em. Raspberries are second only to terrorism as an instrument bent on destroying the American way of life. (See, my thoughts are so much more coherent now that I’ve stopped taking that special medicine.)
Chocolate mixing with fruit is just one of those things that some like and some don’t. I love it, my brother hates it.
I make a killer raspberry-chocolate parfait every summer when our raspberry bushes begin bearing.
I love those chocolate orange bang-on-the-table things, but I don’t think that the raspberry ones came out as good as the original.
For those in the “chocolate + fruit = bad” camp, what happens when the box of Whitman’s/Fanny Farmer/Godiva gets passed around? Are the fruit-creme filled chocolates nasty too? Or is it more acceptable in this form.
One of the best chocolates I ever had…and I swear this is true…was Apple-Pie flavored.
I can’t believe there are people out there who don’t like rasperries or who don’t like raspberries with chocolate.
I love to make raspberry chocolate (or rum chocolate, or mint chocolate, or amaretto chocolate–you get the idea) fondues, pastes, sauces, and bonbons. Fresh raspberries (sometimes with a small crust of sugar) dipped in bittersweet chocolate are absolutely heavenly.
For the Thanksgiving potluck I went to, I made chocolate orange fudge. I’m sure some of you now think I’m a minion of Satan.
Either a search on the box top for where the mint/caramel/pure chocolate/alcohol flavored chocolates are, or guesses as to what might be filled with some sort of nasty orange or cherry or raspberry or whatever hideous concoction someone dreamed up (apple pie?) and picking the other ones.
Porcupine, I agree, flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce is unbelievably incredible. There is a little confectionary in Cedarburg, WI that makes the best, freshest rasberries dipped in chocolate. My wife nearly orgasmed in the store they were so good.
It is a chief tenet of my personal religion that if I see the words “chocolate” and “raspberry” together on a dessert menu I must order the item and eat it. If I do not, the elders will smite me. I have, on occassion, been required to order and eat multiple items. All of my friends know this dietary requirement of my religion and respect it.
Absolutely yes! I love raspberries and dark chocolate. I love dark-chocolate covered raspberry jelly sticks.
One of my favorite pieces in the old Whitman’s Sampler years ago was the dark-chocolate covered raspberry jelly.
I was disappointed when Whitman’s discontinued that piece.
I also love the Russell Stover dark-chocolate covered raspberry cream, and the raspberry-flavored chocolate-covered caramel.
I didn’t know about the new Raspberry Milanos. I’ll have to look for them the next time I go the store.
Whitman’s samplers? Whitman’s freakin’ samplers?! And Russel stover, the chocolatiers a mere half-step (at most) above Hershey’s? You’ve got to be kidding me.
If you ask me (which, granted, you haven’t, but that won’t stop me. I’m just full of opinions these days), the best way to eat chocolate and rasperries is to dip the raspberries into or cover them with either Ghirardelli or the good Valrhona stuff.
If you want a pre-made bar (just unwrap and eat), my vote goes for the Cloud Nine dark chocolate with rasperries bar.
I must admit, though-- I also have a yen for the Joyva raspberry rings now and then. I attribute this to fond memories of childhood Passovers, during which I could often gorge myself on the things. As an adult, I admit their appeal is not as rich or directly alluring as the really good stuff, but sometimes I crave the neat little choco-berry tauri now and then.
Just the memory of that B&B where we were served the most perfect chocolate pudding ever, topped with a raspberry sauce the likes of which I’ve never encountered before, but which haunts my dreams even now…
I have to go.
