Oh, you did that thread as well? I do commend you on your guts, Carrick. I don’t agree with you, but you’ve got th’ balls to say what you want to say, and that’s admirable.
As for the rating thing – I don’t mind it. That, and other catch-phrases around here, are part of what the SDMB is, as far as I’m concerned. Without anything like that, this would be just some bland messageboard populated by very clever people who would be loathe to repeat anything as a catchphrase for fear of being accused of creating boredom.
It’s an irony that this thread may have spawned new catchphrases to make folk shake their heads and sigh deeply over. I’ll look forward to the “Wot? Do we have to say ‘pobes’ all the time???” thread some time in the future. That, and the one about fsck. Not to mention “cowbell” (but someone should.)

OKay, seriously though. There is sometimes a lot of venom spewed around in the Pit, and one of the best parts of this website is the humor that exists throughout. So I am sorry that these MB inside jokes irk you, but they keep reading in the Pit. If it were just the same two doxen people yelling at each other it would be a wasteland. Instead you get to present your argument, then people who haven’t been involved previously take a look at the presented evidence, and then get to chime in on how well the rant was accomplished in reference to the disagreement. This leads to a better recognition of the poster and their POV’s.
I don’t know what my original point was, but even when we disagree it’s nice to know that an element of humor can still exist. That’s what bring’s me to the Pit, and that’s what get’s me to listen to your argument. An argument I might not ever see at the GD.

Well spoken, bbs2000. Exactly my feelings about the subject. Unremitting whining and bitching gets real boring real fast. At least around here, people will critique your flameout.
I agree with youse guys. The OP finds out what people think of the Original Rant and when people disagree, it’s done with humour, which is a much, much better read than just grousing. If the ratings weren’t here and weren’t funny, the Pit would be the sort of dreary, self-indulgent flamefest that is found on lesser boards.
