Hmm… Coldfire basically reiterated TubaDiva’s admonition, after The Ryan responded to Tuba’s admonition in the wrong forum- even when Tuba explicitly told him to “take it elsewhere.”
You would think that someone with over 2500 posts would know the proper forum for bitching about staff actions.
The Ryan, FWIW, here are the thoughts that went through my head as I was reading the thread, and mentioning the posts that you (in the ATMB thread) compared to yours:
“wring said that it was it was a mistake to let her have a life.” - I read that and thought it was a joke.
“SPOOFE implied that she was a computer program, and that Manhattan was a Nazi Fascist Moderator.” - I read that and thought it was a joke.
“minty green accused her of trying to extort a coffee mug.” - I read that and thought it was a joke.
“bibliophage made disparaging remarks about her math skills.” - I read that and thought it was a joke.
The Ryan’s post - I read that and my first thought was “What is The Ryan talking about? Is he mad at JillGat or upset about bannings?”
Me, I read it and was surprised The Ryan had a sense of humor. I was not at all surprised when others thought that his post was a dig. And then I was surprised all over again when The Ryan took exception to Coldie’s post and not Tuba’s. I wasn’t surprised about The Ryan’s decision to open up a Pit thread. I am surprised that The Ryan hasn’t come back to this thread claiming his victory yet. I will not be surprised if he does do this by quoting everyone and their great grandfather’s sister’s long-lost german shepard in tiny, lost-all-meaning-from-context peices.
All in all, a very emotional rollercoaster ride of an epic stretched across multiple threads and fora. Can’t wait for the movie.
Ryan is just not that bad of a guy. His post in Scylla’s “remediation” thread was a killer!
I also thought Ryan was joking when I read it. And it was a pretty good one, too, IMNSHO.

I assumed that TR was trying to make a joke, but it wasn’t a good try. Then again, I seem to recall he’s had chronic “moderator hate” in the past, so if I were a mod I would not be cutting him much slack.
Coldie, as usual your response was measured, articulate, clear and a joy to read. I wish more posts were like that.

It’s a shame to see things get out of hand over the ambiguousness and difference of interpretation of e-text. Like, ironically, the dear wring and myself almost had happen once. Thankfully she is a smart and classy lady who was more interested in determining my true meaning, rather than just reacting violently (like I often do).
Stepping away from the Board as I have has emphasized the need for clarity in communication. I’m no longer in the “in” crowd, or party to a multitude of inside jokes anymore, or interpersonal conflicts, so I have to be extra careful when commenting on some issues. And even then I fail sometimes.
I think that the post in ATMB was unclear, and did not seem to be a joke - at first reading. And I think Coldfire has done everything honor demands by his apology and explaining, and you should just let it rest. I don’t think the Staff goes out of their way to be offended or prissy, so it only makes sense to believe what Coldfire and others say - that they did mistakingly interpret it as a dig - and just chalk it up to poor communication.
Emoticons are silly, but also very useful for conveying tone.

I don’t believe TheRyan’s comment was intended to be a joke at all.
I believe it was intended to be a mean-spirited jab at Jill and the rest of the staff members contributing to that thread. TheRyan saw an opportunity to fling an insult that he could then turn to his advantage when the e-vil staff members “misunderstood” his “joke”.
It was a no-lose situation for him. If they took it as a joke he’d be seen as a swell guy. If they took it as an insult, they would respond critically. He would then cry persecution of the poor, misunderstood TheRyan.

My .02c. TheRyan may be an argumentative twerp who annoys the fuck outta me with his endless word-parsing and out-of-context quotes, but he’s (to the best of my knowlege) never been one of those posters who regularly goes after the mods.
I don’t think his comment was even remotely funny, but I believe that he meant it as humor, not sniping.

PS: The Ryan: The polite response to Coldfire is “I accept your apology. Thanks and no hard feelings.”, not an offhanded comment to another poster. If someone does you the courtesy of apologizing, it’s petty to not accept (or reject) the apology directly…
