Oh, come on, people. WE’RE BACK UP!
Be grateful and patient. I’m sure the mods and admins are doing their best.

Yay! No more Casper smileys!
Does this mean that the columns will adjust again? I wanna be able to continue surfing the boards clandestinely at work…
Small window… need small window…
You can tell it’s evil by the goatee!
It sounds like the final appearance of the board hasn’t been decided on yet. Do we get to cast our votes?
Another vote for too narrow, and fonts too big. And I miss the reply field at the bottom of each thread. Other than that, change is good!
Uh… while we’re at it there’s plenty of room (on my screen anyways) for some more smileys. I have to comment that the SDMB smileys are IMO the best ones I’ve seen anywhere, but we could sure use a sick smiley and an “evil grin.”
Early yesterday morning–and today–I could not access the SDMB at all, getting a “Database Error” message instead.
I am currently using a computer in a public library–Internet Exolorer.
My home PC uses AOL 7.0. I have no problems reaching any other web page at home.
I trust the bugs will be ironed out (bad metaphor) in due time.

It used to be slow at times, but now it is slower. I hope they can speed it up a lot.
Really? For me it seems more reliable - If it’s not working it tells me so (database error) and if it is working the waits aren’t too long.
Not like when you’d click submit and wait ten minutes for a dns error screen.
(I must get rid of that sig. What seems like a good idea one day is always a lame embarrasment the next)
Agreed. Used to be imposible for me to read or post at this time of day.
Lame? It’s not lame. It’s actually very unique.
having very recently installed and adapted a vbulletin myself, I at first was sympathetic about this change, and understood why they were going to have to take some time to figure it all out.
But now, I can’t see why they have, from all outside appearances, not achieved anything. It takes about an hour to redesign the colours and styles and rearrange the pages. What’s holding them up?
i just want to know where to send the offerings of thanks (chocolate, beverages, sex slaves?). we have a great message board, cool (perhaps even a few nerdy) people, and a sponsor that gives us upgrades. a few bugs here and there, are small price to pay.
Why are the threads in reverse order, with the OP at the bottom and the most recent reply at the top, all of a sudden? And how do I turn them right-side-up?
Shayna, go to User CP > Edit Options. There’s a pop-down menu under “Thread Display Mode”. If you have “Linear- Newest First” selected, that’s the cause of the problem. Choose “Linear- Oldest First” to restore sense to your world.
Thanks, Audrey, that worked. However, I shouldn’t have had to go do that. Threads read just fine in the “Oldest First” order, right up until I posted my first reply in this new version, then it mysteriously reversed itself when my post displayed. If it does that every time I make a post, that’d be ridiculous.
Don’t find a way to change it, except unclick every time I post.
A bit surprised to see that images are now allowed. What’s the protocol on this regarding size, content, frequency, etc?
FWIW, actually seems a little quicker to me.
As another poster mentioned - this new look (albeit perhaps temporary) is narrow and not as functional. I used to be able to look at one page with tons of threads without scrolling - now it’s scrollarama. Most of the titles are now on two lines so they’re less readable.
Even if
those
bugs
limit
the
reada-
bility
of the
board?
Seriously, I’m with GuanoLad here (and hopefully if enough of us complain about the page width the admins might do something about it).
Images are not allowed. See the bottom of the page:
vB code is On
Smilies are On
[IMG] code is Off
HTML code is Off
You can type it in, and it’s in the edit bar by default… but it won’t put an image in your post.
–OpalCat, who remembers when both images and HTML were enabled…
It seems that the most limiting feature of the new board is the fixed width. We will look into this, although I do not have official word on it from the CR techs yet. Rest assured we are aware of the issue and will work towards a solution. I shall update you with more information as and when it becomes available.
Hmmm…
It’s been quite a few days now and not a thing seems to have changed. Oh well, I’ll keep waiting.
If they’re not careful we’ll all get used to this design and moan when they start restoring the SDness of it (if they intend to that is)
