Before CC basically commercialized The Friars Club Roast, it used to be considered an honor to be roasted. And it was generally understood: “Yes, we’re making fun of you, but we only do so because we love you buddy!”
Donnie boy is old enough to remember those roasts. And with that in mind, I’m sure it only played to Trump’s ego when Comedy Central approached him with the Roast gig. He’s too stupid to realize CC’s roast does not carry the same prestige as the Friar’s Club Roasts did. So he agreed.
The WHCD on the other hand, is a function that honors people other than Donald, so of course he isn’t interested in going.
