I’m gonna hug you whether you want one or not. SQUEEEEEEZE a kitty!
Charlie likes hugs, but he prefers to initiate them, and he will only hold still for half a minute or so. He’s a very busy kitty, got things to do, and can’t waste time on too many hugs.
Sapphire loves hugs, and will hug back. Sometimes she’ll put one foreleg on either side of the hugger’s neck, and press her cheek against the person’s cheek. I find this to be just adorable.
Shadow doesn’t like hugs. He has Issues. He doesn’t like to be picked up, either. I adopted him as an adult, and I guess he was mistreated in his previous home. He was very skittish at first. He used to be afraid of being picked up and hugged, but I do this a couple of times a week, praising him while I do it, and then letting him go after a few seconds. He’s building up a tolerance. He needs to accept being picked up now and then, in case we need to take him to the vet. When I hug him, I tell him he’s a big brave kitty.
I’d brought a new stuffed toy for my friend’s dog. He got it out of my bag and then walked around with it sheepishly as if he expected that I was going to scold him and take it away. After a few minutes it finally sank in that I was really going to let him keep it and now I think he has a new favorite toy to replace the thrice-amputated and much destuffed kitty that was his first choice for playing fetch and tug-of-war for several weeks now. Awww. Makes me feel good.
Or it might just be him being a cat (aka weird)? I have one cat that hates being picked up and will squirm away within seconds, despite having been raised by us since teeny kittenhood being spoiled to death. And begging to be petted. And his brother from the same litter loves to be held.
Then again, Sam has some other issues - when he gets anxious, he stops eating much and starts licking all of the fur off of his stomach and legs.
To the cat after he came out of the litterbox. It was at this moment that I realized I am, sometimes, the crazy cat lady, and there’s not much left to be said about it.
