Reccomend some Wii Games

I bought a Wii last year, mostly for kids who visit (we have none of our own). But I want to play with it too.

Along with Wii Sports, I bought Mario Party 4 and Mercury Madness. MM is fun but not very challenging, Wii Sports gets dull after a while (with the exception of boxing) and MP4 is geared for the younger ones and is a little slow for me.

Some info:
~I am looking for games that take good advantage of the Wii interface, maybe has some puzzle-solving elements, and that is challenging enough to keep me coming back.
~I think Katamari Damacy might be fun (I’ve never played it, and as far as I know it hasn’t been ported to Wii).
~My favorite all-time game is Asteroids.
If you have any questions that might help identify games, ask away!

Thanks in advance.

Mario Kart Wii is fun and definitely takes advantage of the Wii interface, assuming you use the wheel. Challenging, too – 150cc is killing me.

Beyond that, I enjoy Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but I’m not sure if that would be something you’d like or not. The only other game I own for the Wii is Super Mario Galaxy, which was fun the first time through.

I’m not going to be able to pick it up until this weekend, but from everything I’m hearing, a game that came out this week called Boom Blox is What You Need for this particular item.

Boom blox is fun but it’s tennis elbow waiting to happen!

You might like Wario Ware: Smooth Moves. It’s kind of spastic but it can be really fun and it makes great use of the wii remote.
Basically, the game uses the concept of micro games…these games are at most 5 seconds long. In a given round each game starts by telling you how you should hold the remote then the game starts with usually one quick instruction (ex. Sweep!) and it’s up to you to figure out what you’re supposed to do and do it before the time runs out. The games come one after another with very little time in between and it speeds up as you go.

Here’s a great video showing off the game. It’s crazy, hilarious, and fun.

I haven’t played it (yet), but try Geometry Wars.

I’d point you to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Great use of the point interface- maybe the best first person controls I have ever seen, and some not-insignificant problem-solving aspects to the plot. As to challenging, I had to resort a few times to the online guide, which I rarely do. I really do recommend this game.

On the con side though, it starts slow. I think it was about an hour or more before I really got into it.

Try Zack and Wiki: The Hunt for Somethingsomethingsomething.

It looks silly and childish, but it uses the Wii mechanics and it’s similar to the old-school point-and-click adventure games. Think Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, that sort of thing. Of course, if you aren’t familiar with those you should still check it out because it’s a fun little puzzle game.

As Pollux Oil said Zack and Wiki is really good and it can be had for just $20 new. It’s one of those sad games that people who enjoy clever, quirky games pass the word around on but gets ignored for some reason (usually theme; if it doesn’t feature heads exploding there’s a very large market segment that would rather pretend it doesn’t exist).

I’ve been playing Okami lately and enjoying it quite a bit but my dedication to scraping every bit of game I can out of a title I’m enjoying has been overwhelming me on this one. It doesn’t look like a large game as you’re playing it but there’s a lot of little things to see and do. It’s a fun take on Japanese mythology with the player being the wolf creation goddess Amaterasu fighting the snake Orochi with a magic calligraphy brush. It’s an open action/adventure so you spend the game going to an area, finding the new ability, and then going to the new area which your new ability lets you go to with occasional backtracks to get the treasures that you couldn’t get because you didn’t have that power yet.

I’ve heard some good things about No More Heroes and that’s the next one on my own play list (probably next week).

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is actually a lot of fun, and uses the Wii interface wonderfully.

You can’t go wrong with Super Mario Galaxy. There’s a lot of stuff to do but it’s also very friendly to just pick up and play for a few minutes. Ghost Squad is a fun, lightweight arcade-type lightgun shooter that can be had for fairly cheap. No More Heroes is also pretty fun and very unique.
