Recent Vietnam movie?

Today I sort of had a movie recommended to me like this:

It’s about a man in Vietnam

It came out pretty recently
Anybody have any idea what this could be? I didn’t find Netflix or imdb helpful.

Was there a war on?

Rescue Dawn.

(That’ll be 20 bucks.)

Rescue Dawn was released in 2007, and is about the

shooting-down and escape of a German-born US Navy pilot during the Vietnam War.

The movie’s storyline actually unfolds in Laos, not Vietnam, but the laconic nature of the OP’s friend’s recommendation would seem to allow the mistake.

ETA: Slipped up on Peak Banana’s peel: shouldn’t have been so loquacious in my post!

Oh, sure, Antonius, you can make a fancy spoiler tag and elaborate on the plot all you want. I still get the 20 bucks.

Thank you. I shall distribute $20s to all when next we meet.

What about Saigon Love Story it opened on Thursday.

Er, Rambo?

Dude, Where’s my car?

That was set in Burma, I think.

For a movie about Vietnam which doesn’t involve the Vietnam War, I’d assume you were talking about The Quiet American with Brendan Fraser and Michael Caine.

This vaguely reminds me of that time we were sitting around in the mess watching TV and Tour of Duty came on. Some wiseguy asked “Is this the one when they’re in Vietnam?”

Always cracks me up.
