I’m building a web site for my Dad, and I need only the most basic setup. Email addresses, domain hosting and hopefully JSP or Servlet support. I’m not married to servlets if they are really expensive, but I don’t know much about languages that aren’t Java.
The only application I need to write will take a form, validate it (probably in Javascript), and email that form to an email address. Pretty basic, I’ve written servlets that do this, so I’d rather just reuse my old code.
I’m looking for cheap and reliable. Any suggestions?
For $5 you get 3GB of hard disk space, 25GB of bandwidth, 100 pop mail and ftp accounts, 15 mySQL databases, support for SSI, PHP and Perl, and an insane number of other options. And with the option for one additional domain, you can essentially run 2 websites off this hosting at no additional cost.
I have 2 websites already hosted with them, and I plan to move my other websites once their current hosting expires.
Here’s the thread that got me hooked to fuitadNET:
I use Dreamhost. I like them a lot. The formmail thing you describe is already set up (I’m not sure if it’s available on the most basic plan, but I suspect it is) so you won’t have to write your own, just customize the form and you’re good to go. I’ve been very, very happy with their tech support–the couple of times I emailed them, they were back to me within an hour and sometimes sooner, and were unfailingly helpful.
