I love the smell of Christian Dior’s Eau Sauvage. It’s kind of a clean, unisex scent.
I’ve never had a mustache, never worn a gold chain with an unbuttoned shirt, and never smoked a cigarette, much less a Marlboro. I think you’ve got it confused with Jovan Musk or something…
I’m currently going with Chanel - Pour Homme. Its subtle, not too in-your-face. Girly at the counter said its her fave of all the men’s fragrances at the moment, too.
Angel for men smells good to me, and how could your hubby object to a cologne where one of the notes is tar? Tar is manly! Actually I’m surprised to read that, I’ve never noticed a tar note. The price seems mid-range, but it’s true that cheap colognes smell cheap. If you are economizing, sometimes you can get the lotion or something for less. The good thing about that, is that it’s more difficult to put on too much. Nothing worse than someone drenched in stink-water.
I’ve been an Issey Miyake’s L’eau D’Issey Pour Homme man for over 10 years now. Sometimes, I’ll catch a whiff when I’m putting it on and make myself swoon!
I would recommend any of the following:
Joop
Nightflight
Emporio Armani
Ralph Lauren Blue
CK One
Clinique Happy
There are online parumeries that sell fairly cheap, just find one you both like and buy it [or a knock off which is available in walmartoid stores] and enjoy=)
You probably can’t go wrong with any of the scents similar to Polo Sport, Dunhill X-centric, Davidoff Cool Water or Hugo Boss (they all smell pretty similar to me).
They’re kind of light and fresh… but not girly. That’s about the best way I can describe them.
While I like somrthing a little more intense, something like what you’re talking about would be acceptable to him.
I plan on getting him into the habit of just wearing cologne before I start tarting him up!
James Bonds smell.
I’ve always liked Marbert Mann which I think is from germany and I always want to call it Manfred Mann
I would guess that Hai Karate is right out.
My vote is for Drakkar Noir. Hmm…
Robin
Really. Trust me.
Club Med My Ocean for Him.
Yes. It smells nasty. There was a promotion going on at a mall I was at a few weeks ago for AXE, and the sign said “Girl Free Zone”. I think they meant it as “this is a macho, manly place!”, but really, if you’re wearing Axe, you probably will create a girl free zone.
Avoid something you can get at a drugstore, I’ve never smelled anything nice from there. My dad wears an aftershave called Woodland Something I can’t Remember from the Body Shop, but I can’t remember if they still make the men’s line. THey have have a few nice colognes though, and they are light-smelling and fresh.
Also, a good bottle of cologne will last quite awhile, because most of the more expensive scents are very concentrated, so he’ll need very little to get the right amount of scent. Even if you do pay more than you really want to right now, he’ll have the bottle for a long time, especially if he doesn’t wear it often.
Yeah, I was gonna avoid Axe even before I read that thread; I was avoiding it on the basis that my 18-year-old daughter recommended it. Since she turned 15, I haven’t seen her wear or smelled her wear anything that I personally would endorse. Therefore, if she thinks it’s a good idea, it must be bad!
I have two favorites…
Number one fragrance of all times - Egoiste Platinum by Chanel
Runner up- Caroline Herrera for Men (The original, in the burgundy box with the amber dots)
Robin, you’ll never guess what Mr2U has a bottle of, sitting on his dresser…
<GASP!>
Frozone’s Secret Identity is Mr2U!?
Eau Sauvage is also a classic. It’s been in production since 1966, which is ages in perfume terms. It’s the only after shave and cologne my father uses, and it’s now the only after shave and cologne I use. My wife loves it on me also, so that’s all good.
FWIW, norinew, I also fall into the no cologne camp, and I’ve had lots of women tell me I smell great.
(Well, at least they did before I met Mrs. Moto. Now, she just tells me that occasionally.)
As a general rule, women want men to smell clean. Lots of times, I’d shave right before a date just to get the fresh smell of shaving cream onto my skin, and to make my face nice and smooth. These days, I use a shaving brush and shaving soap, and that has a nice smell to it as well.
If your husband is anti-cologne, shop around sometime for high-end shaving gels or creams. You might find one that has a smell that drives you nuts.
