You can? In the same place where you see my error in diction, no doubt.
Tell me, do you feel better after taking the time to post such drivel? Wouldn’t it be easier to simply say, “oops, my bad.”
Then again, you could simply have resisted the urge to post your picayune (and inaccurate) grammatical dig in the first place. Did it make you feel like one of the smart kids for a second? Was it worth it?
My physician has adviced me to ignore tedious, semingly endless scrolls, written by bombastic pseudo-pious blowhards. He says there’s no need to add imaginary message board stress on my severely damaged heart, cholesterol-riddled arteries and ear-thumping blood-pressure.
He suggests instead, that if I want to live longer than a year or two, I get off my fat ass, take the medication he prescribed and engage in a regular exercise routine. I’ve decided to follow his sage advice.
That said, the offer to eat my shorts still stands. Turd included at no extra charge.
Meantime, feel free to write yet another dissertation for me to ignore. How you chose to waste your time is no business of mine.
How quaint. The “I’m not going to play with you anymore” defense, terror of kindergadeneres the world over. And it’s so much easier than having to construct a coherent argument of figuring out what all of those big words mean before typing them.
Putting past disagreements aside, take a look at Spirtus’ post count. Do you really think that a sock could persist on the board for that long?
[Background IMHO] Spiritus is here after an extended absence. His politics differ markedly from those of Liberal (as do mine, for that matter). He shares an interest in philosophy with Lib. Spirtus’ analytic abilities and precision with language are unmatched. This may become clearer to some in GD, where personal matters are characteristically set aside. When he was an active poster, he had fans across the ideological spectrum. Really. [/Background IMHO]
Welcome back, Spiritus. Things have deteriorated here a bit due to some combination of paid subscriptions, a general rise in shrillness related to the current administration, and of course entropy. I’m not sure which element explains the most. Ah well, there’s always GQ and CoCC. Oh, and my old handle was “flowbark”.
On preview:
I sincerely hope that Lib chooses not to resurrect this thread upon his return, regardless of certain posters’ fondness for sniping.
On double preview:
Er, royalty is an Old World phenom. (Yes, I know sensei means “Master” in Japanese, roughly translated.)
Seeing as the posters in question have pretty much evaded the topics of “petty”, “vicious”, “devoid of compassion”, and “shame”, it may be best to redirect our attention elsewhere. 3. I suppose this is consistent with the thrust of the remarks Red’s partly-imaginary doctor. …As for myself, perhaps I might better spend my time fighting ignorance and strengthening my (healthy, thanks very much) body than trading insults in the Pit.
flow . . . er, Measure for Measure Great to see you again. One of the things that saddened me when I first got back to the board was the absence fo so many folks from days gone by. It turns out, happily, that a few of you have simply changed your monikers.
One of these things is not like the other. If you stare at them really hard and maybe squint your eyes a bit you might figure out the difference. If not, you might want to consider your own objections to posting such comments seriously in a PIT thread and wonder whether there can truly be a hypocrisy that knows no bounds.
Well, we already know that thinking is not your strong suit.
I missed the part where Spiritus made light of your partly-ironic health concerns, Red. It seems to me that he was commenting on your refusal to, um, read/take in/respond to/whatever his response to your messages.
Now Redmight claim (disingenously, IMHO) that his Doctor actually told him to lay off on the message board reading. But frankly, he doesn’t seem to be that silly to me.
Spell checking is the last refuge of scoundrels. (Just kidding on the square, ETF). On Preview: The hell? EddyTeddyFreddy: it looked to me like you were correcting a typo.
Spiritus: Cheers, mate. There actually has been a degree of turnover on the board, as far as I can tell (I go through spells of nonposting as well).
As for the board’s quality, I’ve wondered whether the decrease in new blood has lowered the incentives for good behavior. The more people post for the sake of confronting their adversaries (as opposed to impressing lurkers with the quality of their argument), the more civility (and logic and wit, for that matter) declines.
Redfury: You don’t find spell corrections to be tedious? What about grammar? Again, .
I’m guessing that you take issue with Spiritus’ style of writing. For myself, I find it to be a pretty effective lance when directed against ignorance. Still, I believe Red’s sarcasm leads nowhere and is a little lame.
Really. “You think you’re so smart,” isn’t much of an argument, though it does bring back grade-school memories.
Yes, your efforts to find spelling or grammar mistakes in a thread not concerned with spelling or grammar have been most polite. How terrible for you that such samaritanism has not bee applauded appropriately. Oh, wait, yes it has.
Yeh, it was about as vicious a comment as my pointing out that Lib could, if he wishes to, address all the arguments and ad hominems raised against him once his suspension is over. (I agree with you, by the way, that it would be a good idea if he didn’t, at least not in the context of this thread.) Spiritus Mundi is far from being the only person to make the statement that Lib can’t answer what’s being said about him now, which is one of those “Yeh, but…” statements that I felt ought to be clarified.
If SM has chosen to see my comments as an attack, that I feel says more about him than about me.
Measure I think you miss the point. The only thing that matters to these particular posters is that I have dared to criticize them. Neither quality nor content of argument matter to them. The tools at their disposal are limited, so they spew indiscriminate bile at the world. Should one of them demonstrate the capacity for honest exchange or self-reflection it would shock me greatly.
