As far as Liberal is concerned, I really don’t have an opinion either way. Half the time I want to punch him in the head, the other half I want to invite him over for a beer. I’m funny that way.
Maybe I take this personally, and to be honest I never thought I would be this personal, but Pit or not someone probably should back off when something like this is exposed. My wife is in her late 20’s and was diagnosed with ALL shortly after our youngest daughter was born. Which was treated, went into remission, but it came back. Twice. Now my wife doesn’t think she can handle it all again. Treatment success was supposed to be almost 80%, it failed. Now from what the doctors say, it will be about a year.
And you see I don’t think anyone can lie about such a thing, I don’t care how snarky someone is, if they hijack a thread, I don’t think a person can make something up like this.
You know Liberal seems to have taken his lot in life, much like my wife, I know its hard enough for me to believe sometimes that my wife is stronger then me, able to say goodbye before I am willing to say goodbye. Hell she won’t even let me quit work, so everyday I work away knowing my wife is not going to be home when I get home very soon.
Some of our friends never found out anything, until she chose to not seek aggresive treatment this time around.
what this all leads too, is Liberal deserves the benefit of at least not insulting it. If its not real, well fuck him with a barbed wire covered baseball bat, if it is true, no amount of Pit rantings, no amount of insults, equals someone deserving to be mocked while dying.
He was not asking for sympathy, if he where I would have reservations. He simply stated what I perceived as a fact.
After this post, I would prefer not to hear about my situation, please, the biggest reason I joined here is to escape life for the brief moments I can.

LostGoals, you have my deepest sympathies and I can understand how your experience would color your opinion on this.
Sadly, though, this board has seen several instances over the years of people (even respected posters) making up horrific things in order to garner sympathy or attention - I guess (who knows why anyone would do such a thing). I personally have no idea what Lib was talking about. If he’s serious and is ill, my thoughts are with him. I’ve learned, though, that people can be absolute shits and totally disgusting, especially in this sort-of anonymous format, so it wouldn’t really surprise me if someone came onto the board and faked a terminal illness for attention or point-scoring in an argument or whatever.
I’m not saying Liberal’s doing that, and I hope he isn’t, but I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. I can definitely understand why a lot of people are a bit jaded around here.

Look, I’ve seen my share of drama on this board. This post of Lib seemed -I dunno- resigned. Heck, he could have just been referring to his advanced age: I’ve heard more than one senior citizen allude to the Reaper. It’s not unusual.

I think it’s a little unrealistic to seriously suggest people ignore it when a long-time member (be they hated, loved, or largely ignored) announces that they’re expecting to soon be dead. No matter where it’s posted, that’s big news.

Hmmm. Hadn’t thought of it like that. You’re right. I guess I hope that he’s not lying and that he’s not dying. In other words, I hope it was just some sort of old-man-dwelling-on-his-mortality kind of thing, which is actually how I took it initially.
You’d like to think that. My ex girlfriend lied to me and told me she had early-onset terminal cancer. She told other friends (and online acquaintances) as well.
To make a long story short, she didn’t have terminal cancer.
I don’t know if Lib is lying or not, and frankly, I don’t really care. If he is dying, that sucks. If he’s not dying, he sucks for making people think he is. It still won’t give him the right to say and/or do anything he likes, whenever he likes. I don’t think I would kick a fellow when he’s (possibly) down, but I don’t really blame other people, especially strangers, for taking it with a giant grain of salt, considering some of the lies that’ve been told on this board.
Not to mention that he has, in the past, posted some very cryptic, hard to puzzle out comments, and then refused to explain them.

Actually, it was a thread pitting the administration, not that facts matter to you. My impending biological demise is my doctor’s opinion, based upon a number of considerations, including but not limited to lumps all over my body, stroke-level blood pressure, episodes of apparent angina, and severe respiratory distress. Not to mention a prodigious family history of heart attacks and cancer. I will not allow him to explore the matter further. No tests. No probing. No colostomies. No more fucking medication. I do not fear the cessation of what biologists cannot even define. I know that life is not found in the atoms. I don’t want any sympathy. There is nothing to sympathize over. There is nothing to be sad about. It should be joyful for all concerned. Those who love me should rejoice in my shedding the shackles of earthly confinement. Those who hate me should rejoice in not having to hear from me anymore. Those who shut up about it, however, will have a special place of fondness in my heart. And frankly, sympathy from the likes of you would be something icky and filthy. Just keep it for yourself, where it belongs and fits in nicely.

Just for the record, what exactly is “the likes of me”? I don’t recall following you around just to yell LIBERAL IS AN ASSHAT at the top of my lungs like some others on this board. I agreed with the statements that you tend to hijack damn near every thread you join, or at leats the ones that I see you join.
Whatever, you don’t have my sympathy for the simple fact that I don’t know you and I’m not a very sympathetic guy in the first place. I could also sit here and list all the things wrong with me and about how my family has such a horrible history of cancer and heart attacks as well as other problems, but ya see, it doesn’t matter to me. I refuse to play some bizarro type of sympathy game where I’m sicker than you are becomes the main point.
