So, Ive been at college for a little chile now (actually only since wednesday-4 days) and there have been alot of ups and downs. I just got back from a wonderful lecture by URL=http://www.berticeberry.com/]Bertice Berry first time Ive felt a standing ovation was deserved in years (although that’s material for a pit rant).
Ive also discovered that there really are alot of closed minded assholes, even in the art department. While attending a forum on sexuality, guy in my classes went apeshit over mentions of homosexuality.
On the plus side, I have met a few really, really cool people in unexpected places. While signing up for Amnesty International, I met a few really interesting and fun girls recruiting for the Young Republicans. While waiting for a friend, I met up with a senior who didnt yell “Frosh” and giggle with is manchild friends.
Alcohol is rampant here, and while I have partaken of my share, Ive kept my wits about me, I limit myself to two and refuse to drive afterwards. Judging fromt the 56 MIPs served last night in a 2 block radius, Im either the only one, or the only one smart enough not to walk around the street with a longneck in my hand. I also siscovered that one of the students employed as a janitor si possibly the coolest guy here, with appreciations for things like Metropolis (the Lang version) and Woodchuck cider. Not surprising in that hes a janitor, just that he’s here after spending a year studying in Australia, Singapore, and Fiji.
Alas, I think I may just stick with it, Ive met several fun people, and theres a prospect of a cheap year abroad.
Im thinking of changing my major from art to Animal Science with a minor in art, in hopes of landing a job at National Geographic. Wise choice?
I dont mean to use this as a diary, but I know a few of you told me to check in when I got to school, so I figured Id post it for all.
