I’m applying for a position as a flight attendant with American Airlines one of the job requirements is to move immediately to your new base city after completing the eight and a half weeks training. My question is, when they say “immediately” what does that mean exactly, a month a week? I have no idea.
Shouldn’t you be asking them?
Sounds like something to ask them at the interview.
I’m not a flight attendant, but I do work in the industry. In my experience it means that you will be rostered to work from your base as soon as you’ve finished training (maybe with a weekend off or something in between). So you have to be able to turn up for work at your new base straight away. They don’t care if you’ve moved your stuff or whatever, they just need you to be available to work. My company gives you two weeks hotel accommodation so you have somewhere to sleep while you are looking for a rental, but you have to work for those two weeks so you have very little opportunity to go house hunting.
If you want better info from workers rather than the company itself, try PPRuNe. Although it is primarily a pilot’s forum there are dedicated areas for cabin crew. Try the Cabin Crew and Cabin Crew Wannabes forums. The Cabin Crew forum even has a thread dedicated to accommodation.
A word of warning about PPRuNe in general. Although there is a lot of good information on there, the aviation industry has a high number of drop outs and pretenders and they are more likely to be outspoken and have the time to spend on an internet forum. In short there is a lot of crap on PPRuNe and it might take a little while to learn what to sift out.
Well they aren’t going to expect you to buy your own teleporter(immediate transportation…)
but the mean they set a practical schedule/roster… its not for you to say “I’m having a two week vacation”.
