I know I’ve posted these articles before, but the suggestion that Texas issue its own cryptocurrency as a way to defy the US government seems especially interesting in light of Elon Musk’s politically based defection to Texas and his new cryptocurrency plans.
I would laugh if an increasingly crazy Elon Musk effectively took over Texas and fashioned himself a God-King, transforming the former state into a Somalia-like “paradise” for a few dozen warlords.
And they all fly off to colonize Mars.

The lawsuit alleges that the redistricting plan drawn by Texas lawmakers violates the Voting Rights Act.
“The complaint we filed today alleges that Texas has violated Section Two by creating redistricting plans that deny or bridge the rights of Latino and Black voters to vote on account of their race, color or membership in a language-minority group,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said at a news conference.
The lawsuit targets both the US congressional map drawn for the next decade of elections and the plan for the state House.
“The Legislature refused to recognize the State’s growing minority electorate,” the lawsuit states. “Although the Texas Congressional delegation expanded from 36 to 38 seats, Texas designed the two new seats to have Anglo voting majorities.”

There isn’t a doubt in my mind that this lawsuit will be unsuccessful. The VRA prohibits intentionally diluting the voting strength of minority communities. But Texas Republican have been very careful to talk about this redistricting in terms of its partisan impact. And the Supreme Court has already ruled that partisan redistricting is hunky dory.
Besides, John Roberts was gutting the VRA even before he had a 6-3 conservative majority. If this suit accomplishes anything, it’s probably that it ends up being used as a vehicle for the court to dismantle the last vestiges of the VRA.
Christ, if that isn’t a case of being between the Devil and the deep blue sea. On one hand, we have current Attorney General Paxton, GOP shill extraordinare and known corrupt crook who’s being tried in criminal court for crooked stuff done while in office.
And on the other, we have infamous mouthbreather and crayon eater Louie Gohmert, who I’m pretty sure wears some sort of grownup Garanimals suits because that’s probably the only way he can keep them straight.

I also saw a headline somewhere, very recently, that he has declared that he will continue “investigating” parents of trans kids for child abuse, despite a court order forbidding it.
Paxton is appealing the ruling, of course, and says he will appeal all the way up to the Supreme Court if necessary. The immediate dispute here is whether the restraining order (forbidding these investigations) remains in effect or is on hold during these appeals.

I agree with your sentiment, but fun fact: Venom isn’t poisonous. You can cook and eat venomous critters, at least for the most part. Venom gets you by being injected into your bloodstream from a bite. Your stomach will laugh it off.
It’s sort of similar to that dopey antivax meme about ‘If you swallow the vaccine it will kill you.’ Eating and injecting into your bloodstream are two very different things.

When a conservative baselessly accuses someone, it’s almost always something that they themselves are guilty of. Ken Paxton is baselessly accusing the parents of trans kids of child abuse.
