I have to say, I have just an immense amount of respect for Kate Cox. What she’s going through right now is absolutely heart wrenching. I have no doubt that she could afford to travel to another state and get an abortion. But she’s staying and fighting, prolonging her own suffering, because she knows that not everyone in Texas has that option.
It’s important to remember that Texas is made up of people like Ken Paxton and his ilk, but it’s also made of people like Kate Cox.
You mean people who need compassion and basic medical care?
Versus the god-bothering suit who seeks political advantage by denying care?
And a state majority who consider Ken Paxon’s actions are more in line with their values than Kate Cox’s needs?
The way it’s looking right now, the child is going to be carried to term whether the mother wants it or not. The point is to stick Paxton’s nose into the mess of a situation he has created, make him face the results of his own goddam decisions.
This quoted post was made in response to an earlier post by me.
I’m sorry, but I have no idea how your comment responds to anything I said. In fact I don’t understand how what you said connects to this thread at all.
I’m not trying to be argumentative; I’m just baffled and honestly curious what was on your mind?
Aside: The TNR/socialize and adopt out Tiny Kittens rescue organization takes in feral moms-to-be, spays the mother after birth and either returns her to her colony or adopts her out depending on how she reacts to gentle taming; the kittens get spayed/neutered and adopted out – all of which introduction leads to this: they work with local veterinarians, monitor the moms-to-be in labor in consultation with the vets when needed, and will take the cat in for a C-section if necessary. They’ve saved both mothers and kittens that way who would have died if not trapped and taken in.
So, even cats get better care from them than Texas women, it would seem.
My interpretation: It responds to the post about the father who said his daughter should die rather than have a C-section, pointing out that said “father” was treating his child no better than an animal, since we humans do have the ability to save lives with medical interventions. Except, apparently, in Texas.
Yep, Tiny Kittens is one of them! Have you checked out the latest rescue litter? They are beyond adorable (and their teenage [8 months old] daughters/aunts turned out not to be pregnant after all). The presumed father’s kitten-making days are also over.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
This woman is certainly very brave, to be coming forward.
No, see, they left the baby’s fate to God, and if God decides to return the soul to His bosom then that’s His will and nobody has the right to interfere.
Right, so you are claiming the self-disenfranchised as being on the side of the angels? Rather than them not caring about which god-botherer is bothering god?
Paxton is not ever going to have to face the “mess” here - he won’t be risking his life and health to give birth, he won’t be giving birth to either a dead or severely deformed baby, and he’s not going to have to care for a severely impaired child that, in addition to the usually lack of sleep and poopy diapers imposed on new parents, will drain the financial resources of an entire family. Nope, regardless of outcome Paxton goes home to his normal life at night.
Couldn’t be bothered googling his precise family situation but wouldn’t Ken be in real danger of being torn a new one by his mother, his sisters, his wife or his daughters?
One seriously hopes so. Particularly his mum, who is no doubt disappointed that he turned out wrong. She bore him and birthed him. And he became an insufferable advocate of precisely the worst possible solution to women’s rights.
If he has sisters, I hope they are really rude to him at Christmas gatherings.
His wife, well… she had a choice in the matter, ironically.
His wife is Republican State Senator Angela Paxton, who is a lockstep social conservative and stood beside Ken throughout his impeachment even as his extramarital affair was a key factor in the prosecution’s case.
Kate Cox is a brave woman who is sacrificing her privacy and quite possibly her health to try to help all the women of Texas. New Mexico is a relatively short distance away, and we have compassionate providers here and organizations that are ready to help women with the trip. That she is willing to go through the torment of a court case on top of this harrowing pregnancy is a testament to her courage.
Although not quite the same situation Ms. Cox story reminds me of the true story of a couple portrayed in the movie Absolute Strangers’ A husband is authorizing terminating the pregancy of his wife. She’s in a coma due to an accident and the baby is sapping her strength. The “absolute strangers” of the title go to court to try to be named guardian of the fetus, even though they do not know the couple.
