Reluctantly — Fuck Texas

Yeah, this sort of thing isn’t uncommon. I know there are movements advocating for Eastern Oregon to join Idaho, and for Chicago to be divorced from the rest of Illinois. (I’d be fine with that last one, once we abolish the Electoral College)

Or, it means there a little pocket of, say Tennessee isolated on the west side of the Mississippi Rver.

Same same in California. Lassen and Plumas counties regularly make noise about wanting to be part of “Greater Idaho” or such nonsense.

Perhaps they mean “Lesser Idaho”?

That’s what I meant - what requires the approval of both states legislatures and Congress - that rule applies to both creation of a new state, and transferring territory between 2 existing states. So the NM counties involved can’t just hold a local vote and claim that’s sufficient authority.

I’ve heard of northern Colorado wishing they were Wyoming, since they’re both physically closer and politically more aligned with Cheyenne than Denver. (Or seceding and forming a different state.)

Trump is the symptom, not the disease.

A useful idiot, if you will.

IMO the significant difference between trump and his successor-in-fascism is that the successor is unlikely to be a fully paid-up Russian stooge. He (of course it’s a he) will still be a full-on Fascist.

Yeah, I hear that a lot.
When I have aches and pain I still take pain reliever, along with medicine that addresses the underlying problem. Trump is a major pain in our collective asses, and getting rid of him would alleviate a shitload of pain.

Wait until president Vance.

Then you do the same thing to him that should have been done to Trump a long time ago. Quit backing off and wishing on a star for someone else to take action.

SCOTUS: Challenge accepted.

No idea what any of this means and I just realized that I don’t care. Anyway, Texas is a shithole.

Don’t be that way. There are over 268,000 square miles in the state of Texas. Every one of them isn’t a shithole.

The way I’ve seen it put is:

“Texas is a good place to be from. As far from as possible.”

No, it sucks and has dragged the entire country down.

The square miles are not the issue. It’s the beliefs and attitudes of the people who live on those square miles.

Not every single person, no. You’re one obvious counterexample.

But if we had a handy MAGA-o-meter we could stick into each state about like the meat thermometer that we stick into a roasting turkey’s breast to check doneness, I think TX would definitely read out as well-done / overcooked.

Nothing about Texas is well-done.

we should care about all the people living there - for gods sake what about children - BECAUSE of all the MAGA shit they have to deal with.

I don’t care if this is the pit: everyone, fucking all of us, need to stop hating on “the other side” if only because it makes the evil billionaire fascists happy.
