… that their parents are foisting off on them.
I’d love to help those kids. But pre-emptively removing kids from their parents for political reasons is the kind of shit ICE pulls. Not good people.

I get it. I really do. I even live in the state.
But the rebuttals are very much in the same vein as “not all men”.
I’m sorry if it seems personal or if you aren’t personally that way, but the state is backwards and needs significant work. And the general shittiness of so many people who live here means some of us will continuously have a bit splashed on us until the state improves. You may or may not consider that fair but that’s just the way it is.
This Floridian feels your pain, @ThelmaLou.
Me too.
It only takes a small number of people to turn any swimming pool into a turdbowl. When 30+% of people are shitting on/in everything, there’s nowhere and no way to escape the stink & disease.
oh, dear. really creates a visual, doesn’t it? OK, rant on!
I am justly famous for my vivid word pictures. Sorry! ![]()
Well, the population of Texas is over 31 million. The beliefs and attitudes you deplore are widespread–I can’t deny it. Hell, I deplore them, too, but so do many of those 31 million Texans.
Look, people, I post in this thread, too. Gov. Greg Abbott and his cronies are complete shitheads. But a blanket condemnation like this…
My bold.
…stings.
There is plenty about Texas that is infuriating, disgusting, and even shameful–those of us who live here know it better than y’all–but beyond politicians, government, policies, lawmakers, and the stuff we hate in ANY state and ANY country, there is still plenty to appreciate and love about the people who live here. Besides me.
It’s this sort of behavior (among other things) that has made New Mexico hate Texas and Texans for well over a century now. Except El Paso. New Mexicans tend to have a better opinion of El Paso.
Perhaps they should discuss annexing it. Show the Texans who’s Final Boss in this fight.
If I owned Texas and hell I’d rent out Texas and live in hell.
Gen. Philip Sheridan
Brisket?
they absolutely should, and I’ll bet many El Pasoans (?) would agree.
Heh, I generally think “If bagging on Texas makes them feel better about the shit hole they live in, I’m glad we could be of service.” Because every place has its own share of suck. If you don’t see that about where you live now, then you aren’t examining it hard enough.
From another thread:
Surely no one would complain about this drinking water: [image] And if they did surely they deserve to be locked up!
Does anyone qualify for Medicaid in Texas anymore?
Texas limits eligibility for Medicaid to families living below 15 percent of the poverty level, meaning that a family of three earning more than—get this—$4,098 annually is not eligible for any benefits.

Many predicted last fall that if the Obamacare subsidies ended, millions would forgo health coverage. Gee, guess what’s happened?
Surprised I haven’t seen the inestimable flurb here (or anywhere, for that matter) for quite a while.
Fucking Texas.
They chose an impeached, philandering scumbag over a long-serving veteran, conservative Senator. And by a nearly two-to-one margin.
At this point, it looks to me like the Republican electorate, as a whole, is choosing the least qualified, most reprehensible candidates they can scrape up. Kakistocracy at its best.
The silver lining is that among the general Texas electorate (still conservative but less so than people may think), Paxton is by a wide margin less appealing than Cornyn when compared to Talarico
When you think about it the appeal of Paxton to GOP voters in Texas is sort of obvious - a corrupt liar who has enriched himself through his office, cheated on his wife multiple times and then been divorced by her, tells lies about his political opponents and makes up childish nicknames for them. And of course blames it all on the media and RINOs and demonic Democrats who are making things up.
It’s like he was created by Central Casting to be positioned as the heir to Herr Trump.
And he also has the overwhelmingly punchable face that seems to be a prerequisite for magats these days.
Paul Krugman spells it out in nauseating detail today. It’s short-- read in 2 mins.

How many of the state’s voters prefer cruelty to prosperity?
…
Texas, then, is a state whose healthcare policy has been marked by cruelty and especially by determination to deny care to those who need it.How does this relate to the Senate race? In a way this is a quintessential match between MAGA and the new Democratic party. Ken Paxton, scandals and corruption aside, has taken a leading role in trying to deny healthcare to needy Americans, both in Texas and in the nation as a whole, repeatedly bringing lawsuits to block implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
Talarico, by contrast, says that “health care is a human right.” In particular, he has called for allowing all Americans to buy into Medicare.
So the Texas Senate race will be about corruption and personal morality. But it will also be about healthcare, and whether Texan voters really want to endorse the state’s continuing, systematic cruelty.
