Reminder: Chuck 2 Hour Season Premiere Tonight

I was very annoyed with Chuck’s ‘we have to talk’ obsession. Sure, he’s an emotional basket case, and Sarah had avoided the talk too many times. But Chuck shouldn’t be so dumb as to attempt to repair their relationship when they’ve got just a couple of minutes to break into the vault and get away. In the past, he’s jeopardized missions when he doesn’t understand stuff (usually because no one told him what he needed to know). But I didn’t like that he was blowing a mission when he had all the pertinent info.

So, was that weapon in the gold case a single-ep MacGuffin, or will it turn out to be the driver for a season-long arc?

You know, I was really hoping Casey would call his minigun “Vera”.

(skipping the thread because I missed the Sunday showing, but I saw the one tonight) Has Awesome got more handsome? “Thus the nickname.”

And Ellie, a woman with natural curves in the greatest dress ever? I think Sarah was at the party, too.

But then he’d have to trade her for Walker - and as he already explained last season, he’s not interested.

Last night’s were okay, it was good to have Chuck back, the world was in a good place again.

Tonight’s was awesome. And on top of that, it was an excellent episode! Can’t wait for next week.

You beat me to it. Last night was so-so, but tonight’s was hitting on all cylinders. I know Awesome can’t have this prominent a role all the time, but they really did a good job tonight (and presumably next week).

Ep 3 was great. Talk about fan service! It’s almost like they knew 1 and 2 weren’t so hot, so let’s put them on Sunday, and make ep 3 the real season premier.

Does anyone know what Sarah and her friend said (not in English) to each other towards the end of the second episode?

I imagine it was Polish, as Yvonne Strahovski (Strzechowski) speaks it fluently.

Sorry for the late input, but I only finished watching both hours last night and didn’t want to be spoiled…

Overall, a pretty enjoyable pair of episodes, and I’m glad Chuck is back!

But I did want to come here to comment on Emmett’s demise. I found that oddly out-of-place with the rest of the show, and frankly a bit disturbing. They’ve never had innocent bystanders getting killed before. (Yes, Emmett was a dick, but he was also an innocent bystander from the spy plot point of view.)

I thought maybe his death was to help signal a shift toward a somewhat darker overall tone going forward, but the second hour didn’t seem to bear that out; it was pretty much back to the same fish-out-of-water goofiness as before. And ultimately, Emmett’s absence is just a happy excuse to bring Big Mike back, since no one knows he was actually shot to death right outside this very store! No one else thought that was kind of creepy? Just sayin’.

(Now I haven’t seen Monday’s ep yet, so maybe there’s something there that’ll make me eat these words, but I’m not betting on it.)

Even chuck isn’t aware of Emmett’s demise - there was a statement between Chuck and Casey - during the scene where Chuck returns to the buy more - where its stated that Emmett took a job with “mega super mart” in Anchorage.

I thought it was a perfect ending to Emmett, he pushed the assasin, who started to walk away until Emmett said “pussy” - which is a life lesson to every nerd out there - don’t push your luck in a fight.

On a different show, I might agree with this. But as someone mentioned upthread, Chuck has something of a cartoonish feel about it, especially (IMO) the Buy More segments.

Sure, there’s been plenty of death in Chuck’s secret spy world, but we’ve always pretty much known that the civilians in his life are never in any real danger… until now. Emmett’s death changed the rules, and I’m not sure I like that.

I paused the show and turned to my wife to ask, “Did he really just say ‘pussy’?”

I think that was the first time I’ve ever heard that word used in a prime time show.

Yes, there’s something at the end of Monday’s episode that suggests a very serious shift to darkness. Possibly…

Well, part of what I said was tounge in cheek - I think the writers couldnt find a better way to revert the store to Big Mike and get rid of Emmett in an easy/satisfying way. It also goes to show us that there will be times of “real” danger to Chuck’s friends/family when his spy life interesects reality.

What I didn’t like is that, As far as we know, Chuck is unaware that his actions directly caused the death of Emmett - sure, Emmett pushed a little to far, but Chuck’s attempt to help led the assasin to Emmett (or whomever might have been at the store at that point).

Havent seen Monday’s episode yet - that’s tonite.

I completely agree with this. I almost stopped watching the second episode because Chuck was being such a whiny bitch. I know it’s a TV show, but the writers need to give him some perspective when they are in the middle of a mission.

I forgot to add, I hope they do explore some darker aspects, and I’m also excited that ep 3 sounds good!

When Chuck and Sarah got in the chopper, I wanted Casey to turn to them and say: “This here is my very favorite gun.” But, no.

I would wager that Emmett’s fate is revealed in a later episode, in which Chuck freaks out at the danger he puts people he simply knows in danger. Of course, he just might never be mentioned again like the first ass. man.

Large Mart. They’re the rival chain to Buy More.

I think the theme of this season is going to be that now Chuck wants to be spy, but he hasn’t fully considered the consequences.

“Arrested Development” used “pussy” repeatedly in one scene to make a meta-joke that you can say “pussy” on TV, but if you meant a weak-willed man (to say nothing of female naughty bits), it gets bleeped. Something like, “We can say ‘pussy’, but not if it means -bleep-”.

Now Tony Hale comes back and shows his old colleagues that you can say it, but it might lose you your job.
