Well boys, the wife’s away tonight so its horror renting time.
Any opinions on Cabin Fever or Freddy vs. Jason without giving me spoilers.
How about some other horror that’s out there? I’ve seen “28 days later”. I don’t imagine “Jeepers Creepers 2” is very good. I’ve heard the new Chainsaw Massacre was really bad. I’ve seen “The Ring” and “fear.com”
I’d go with Freddy v Jason. The first half is a pretty generic Nightmare on Elm Street type movie, save for Freddy’s appearances. The second half, when they start duking it out, is a hell of a lot of fun.
Don’t bother with Cabin Fever. It was just plain awful! I would pick Freddy vs. Jason. At least you get to see Freddy and Jason back in action which was pretty cool. Jeepers Creepers 2 was also pretty good, better than Cabin Fever anyway. Another you may want to check out is Wrong Turn. It’s kind of like Cabin Fever but much better.
Yeah, I do this too. My wife isn’t a horror fan, so when she’s out I go for the cheesy movies… the cheesier the better (preferably with a good bit of T&A)!
The other night I rented something called “Grim Prarie Tales”, which was pretty cheesy but actually not half bad. An anthology picture, but the framing story (with Brad Dorif and James Earl Jones) was actually better than the vignettes.
I’d be interested in hearing recommendations for the next time…
jason vs. freddie…it wasn’t as funny as jason in space, but freddie adds a little “life” to the movie. he is definently the bad ass of the two. and the first half is sort of boring, but it makes up for it with the special effects…oh…well no it doesn’t. it’s lame, but anything is better than cabin fever.
I’ve got to chime in that Cabin Fever was a huge disappointment. The only good parts were Cerina Vincent’s boobies and the little kid at the corner store.
Friends of mine who also grew up with Freddy and Jason in our teenage years have said that Freddy vs. Jason is worth the rental. I haven’t seen it so I won’t comment.
Also, if you haven’t seen the re-release of The Exorcist, I’d recommend that.
I’m not a guy, but I love horror so I’ll throw in my two cents’ worth.
Cabin Fever could have been so much more, I think, if they had played up the psychological aspect of it more (kind of like in Identity). Alas, 'twas not so, and I echo the sentiment of the others who urge you not to waste your time.
Freddy vs. Jason was at least entertaining. The fight scenes pretty cool.
That said, neither movie is that great. If I were you, I’d skip both and choose a classic you haven’t seen for a while. The Shining is always good.
But, if you have to choose between those two, go with Freddy vs. Jason.
Happy watching!
This is what got me sort of intrigued to see it. This is from Stephen Holden of the New York Times…
**But the director and producer Eli Roth, who wrote the story and collaborated on the screenplay with Randy Pearlman, has cooked up a tempting teens-in-the-woods bloodbath that suggests a ‘‘Blair Witch Project’’ with the blanks filled in, the camera stabilized and the story embellished with an evocative score (by Nathan Barr) whose shivery texture is spiced with the sounds of buzzing flies.
‘‘Cabin Fever’’ takes the notion of a rotting rural environment (in autumn), where a toxic, corpse-littered reservoir is the source for commercially marketed spring water, and makes it a metaphor for a contaminated world on the brink of a viral nightmare. That reservoir is the probable source of a contagious disease resembling the Ebola virus, which eventually afflicts all but one of the five brash teenagers who rent a cabin together for a weeklong party that quickly turns into a nightmare.
One reason ‘‘Cabin Fever,’’ which opens today nationwide, sustains such a palpable mood of foreboding until the end is that it stays away from the supernatural and makes minimal use of cheap shock effects. Because the horror doesn’t emanate from a standardized special-effects hell, but from the poisoned land itself, it is all the more ominous. **
And it sounds like its got a tittilating little nude scene too from what some of you have said.
If you want a screaming fanboy review of Cabin Fever, check out Harry Knowles’ review from aintitcoolnews.com.
I personally like Harry’s reviews, but the fact that he loves the movie would send many people running in disgust. There’s some minor spoilers in the review, but you don’t watch a movie like this for the plat.
Well, I went back and forth all day on Cabin Fever or Fred vs. Jay. What finally swayed me was the the video store didn’t have FvJ on DVD so that was all I needed.
I thought cabin fever was all right. It had some pretty funny lines, like “He asked us for help and we set him on fire.”
I thought the “nigger” joke was funny.
The deputy was kind of comical and I like some of the real stomach-turning stuff – all the bloody vomit, and the leg shaving scene, the gutted dog.
I just didn’t think he did a god job of building tension, keeping one nervous, which is what you really look for in a horror movie. Eventually it was all just kind of dicombobulated – all over the place, with the hicks and the dog and the virus. One guy’s looking for a doctor. One guy is looking for the guy looking for the doctor. They just kept winding up in different places for no real reasons.
Anyway, I probably couldn’t give it too high a recommendation, but its better than that kick in the nuts.
I actually liked the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Of course, I saw it before I saw the original, and I have to admit, they are two completely different movies, but still…it was a lot of fun, had some pretty tense moments, and the sherriff was pretty friggin’ fun to watch. If you’re a huge fan of the original, you’ll probably be very angry with the huge detatchemt from the original storyline, but if you haven’t seen either, I’d check out this one.
Cabin Fever was ok. FvJ was fun and brainless. I haven’t seen Jeepers Creepers yet. Wrong Turn is entertaining, especially with Eliza Dushku to watch. The same idea keeps the new TCM interesting.
