Why is there no Report Post Link on one’s own post?
Do you realize how much trouble I went through to get that Leave A Message Box when there was no Report Post Link?
How much trouble?
TPTB suggest that you report the post above or below yours with an explanation directing them to your post.
This is a vB decision that has always been puzzling, though their answer is that it’s to keep the board from being spammed with “report this post” emails.
(Like people wouldn’t use the one before it. Or the one after it. Like we’re forced to do now.) Sheesh.
Anyway, that’s how it is for the time being at least.
- Position mouse pointer over any Report This Post Icon.
- Click Mouse #2 Button
- Scroll down to Copy Link Location
- Click Mouse #1 Button
- Press Keys <CTRL> <N>
- Highlight web address in address bar in new browser window.
- Click Mouse #2 Button
- Scroll down to Paste
- Click Mouse #1 Button
Oh forget it… just use the browser to go to:
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/report.php?p=9238469
then change the number to the post that is yours.
Or, just report the one above or below yours. One click. Yeah, it’s stupid, but it works.
Now that we have the edit function, there’s surely not so much need for reporting of ones own posts, is there?
What had happened was that I opened a thread in CS with a question and then within a few minutes was able to find the answer my own question. I wanted to tell the Mods to just close the thread but there was no reporting icon. So I opened another thread did a little thinking and was able to report my own post.
You can also just email one of the mods.
Yeah but reporting is the same as emailing all the mods of that forum, right?
Yes, that’s true.
