Yes, I believe this was brought up in one of the bug threads after the upgrade. (No, it’s not really a bug; it’s one of those things that seems like a good idea on paper until it’s actually tried.) The one time I had to deal with it, I waited for the first reply and reported that.
It occurs to me there might be a workaround, though I haven’t tried it. If you hover over the “reply” button (to quote a post), you get the ID number of that single post. It’s the same number as in the “report this post” link. So theoretically, you can click an entirely different “report this post” button, and then change the ID number in the link to the one that shows up when you hover over the “reply” button in your own post, and you’ll thus report your own post even though there’s no “report” button available.
Again, I have no idea whether that would actually work, but it seems reasonable to me. Anybody have occasion to try this, and report a result?
I tried it again just now, and it’s working. Tuba’s gonna gonna go mad if we keep this going
I reported my own post from GQ and did receive the report immediately with a link to my own post. So, yes, it works now. It didn’t work earlier. Some settings might have been changed since the last time I tried this.
Just some trivia you guys might like… this is what a reported post look like:
Problem is, the report is sent from the SDMB mailer, not from the poster, so sometimes when I intend to reply to the poster, my reply goes to the SDMB mailer instead :smack:
We have to manually copy/paste the poster’s email address in the reply field when replying.
Might I say that that reply is appreciated. Over the years, that Report button has sat there menacingly, with red capital text lurking but a click away, but it’s nice to know that if we do use it, Ed Zotti won’t send henchmen to our houses.
