Republican National Convention: Jivin'!

Who else watched the Republican National Convention last night? The networks had terrible coverage, but if you had C-SPAN you could get the unabridged, unadulterated version of events.

The entertainment for the evening was hilarious. A rockin’ gospel choir and an R&B singer were on stage back to back. You really had to see this to appreciate it. There were dozens of black people singing and dancing onstage with great enthusiasm, and then the camera pans over the crowd, and there are thousands of white people standing there. Doing nothing. Looking sort of uncomfortable and probably wishing Bob Dylan or Garth Brooks was onstage instead. Occasionally you’d see some woman writhing like she was bitten by a snake. Those Republicans, dey be some jivin’ party animals!

The whole thing was so incredibly transparent. “See, America, we Republicans really do like black people! We’re the party of Lincoln!” And to further drive the point home, all 30 black Republicans in the U.S. were present on the convention floor. Heheh.

At least they had enough taste not to present us with the image of them dancing.

Unlike the Dems, if Al Gore had been there he likely would have started breakdancing to show how in touch he is with the black community. It would go well with his MLK impression he does whenever he speechifies in the presence of a black person.

Are you serious? You think Republicans want to listen to Bob Dylan?

or Garth Brooks?

No, I don’t really think they want to listen to Bob Dylan. I was just struggling to come up with honky musicians that one might associate with middle-aged white males. I don’t think Garth Brooks was out of line though.

Gee, makes me almost wish we had cable TV. Instead, we tried to adjust the rabbit ears so we could listen to Colin Powell’s speech (I’d say “see” but it was kind of fuzzy).

I’m just excited Mrs. Bush is a former librarian. Woo hoo!! You think if her husband gets in office, Mrs. Bush will try to take over the Library of Congress?
