Republicans today are a danger to the US and the world

I would.

The actual numbers of registered Republicans is declining; conversely the Republican support for Trump and his outrageous policies continues to climb. What this means is that the only Republicans left are those who endorse knowingly what he does. I understand that some might have their own rationalization for it, but I can’t excuse it any longer. There comes a point when you have to point out that, either through willful ignorance or with full knowledge, people are supporting evil. Separating refugee children from their parents is evil. Allowing white nationalists to use the White House as a platform to normalize their repugnant beliefs is evil. I’m done making excuses for these fuckers. They’re fucking evil.

Yeah, the GOP isn’t about fiscal conservatism (look at Trump’s tariffs) and it’s not about small government (look at their opposition to gay marriage). The GOP is about white nationalism. It promotes radical theocracy over science, ensuring that we are not taking action on climate change.

It is a much bigger threat to American democracy and the world than ISIS or almost any other organization.

shrug But accurate.

I have a lot of issues with progressive causes and self-identified liberals, too: they tend to make the unrealistic assumption that if you gift people resources and opportunities that they will make best use of them; they assume that “leveling the playing field” by forcing proportional representation in government and business will result in an egalitarian situation; and above all, they assume that the government has an bottomless pot of money to pay for every social and educational program they can dream up without limit and with no measure on efficacy. But at least their desired goal is the overall improvement and advancement of society, albeit sometimes in unrealistic ways.

Conservatives explicitly desire a return to the “traditional values” that include a defined social stratum where white and mostly male leaders make all of the decisions with a distinctly authoritarian bent to it, e.g. you can have freedom of religion (as long as it is in the Judeo-Christian tradition), but not freedom of religion (or one of those weird religions with funny headgear or deities with more than two arms). Economics are a part of this to be sure, but more in the sense of how economic power can affect social changes that they do not desire. The strengthening middle class is what upended the traditional feudal system in Europe in the 19th century, a historical precedent of which the astute among them are well aware.

The single largest entitlement program in the United States government is the Department of Defense, and even if you subscribe to the notion that we require a strong military with a permanent standing army (which invites military adventurism to justify its existence), there remains the fact that within the DoD there is fraud, waste, and abuse on a level that equals the entire budgets of other federal departments. When Congress goes cost-cutting, the obvious first place to start is with the military and defense, and yet, those are the cuts that are vigorously opposed, often by both established parties but particularly by conservatives who maintain its necessity through displays of jingoistic patriotism. We can gut the Department of Education, even though its financial aid and loan guarantees have allowed millions of people to obtain a college education and move into the middle class, but you can’t touch the F-35 or the Next Generation Bomber even as funding grows while the capability becomes irrelevant.

Republicans aren’t the ones pushing unlimited immigration from every corner of the globe, changing every social norm and suppressing the noticing of biological distinctions between the two God-made sexes, or aggressive atheism.

Oh boy. My new favorite poster.

Wait - are we Progressives in favor of all that now?

Did I miss a memo?

Sean Hannity said it so it must be true. You need to watch more Fox News.

Team!

Operation Make America Weird Again is gaining steam! To finish the job we must push unlimited immigration from every corner of the globe, change every social norm and suppress the noticing of biological distinctions between the two Ba’al-made sexes, and aggressively promote aggressive atheism aggressively!

Any questions, please ask Rhonda.

Y’all didn’t receive this? I know I did!

Son, you need to step up your trolling. This is bush league shit. Sprinkle some Q-anon decoding, set yourself on fire to own the Libs, blame Antifa for 9/11 while at the same time asserting it was fake news, I dunno. But you’re going to have to work a lot harder to get meaningful attention or get a rise out of anyone around here.

Sorry, I’ve been out of contact with Libtard Central for a few days.

Thanks for the heads up.

Are we sure he’s new?

Recognizing and reasonably considering those evil, vile, completely unamerican things is tantamount to promoting them don’tchknow!

You forgot the rock n’ roll music. We’re always listening to that goddam rock n’ roll music.

Do you actually believe all of that?

Let’s just pick one:

Can you show us where some group seriously proposed unlimited immigration?

That was Epic.

And all perfectly correct, except for the parts about unlimited immigration, changing every social norm, suppressing the noticing of biological distinctions (whatever that means), and aggressive atheism. I’ll assume the poster is OK with passive atheism.

But aside from those minor quibbles, well done.

Oh Epic, why do I have a funny feeling that you’re going to be just a comical as Silver Lining? Those are some mighty big shoes to fill. He’s the current champ for dumbest poster on the SDMB, but I really feel like you’ll be able to give him some competition.

Sadly, it isn’t a competition.

What’s this “abolish ICE” aka THE immigration enforcement agency all about? Or “no person is illegal,” or Keith Ellison’s “I don’t believe in borders” shirt

Here’s a thought: have you ever tried not being an idiot? Never know, might work.

ICE was formed in 2002. Did we have open borders prior to 2002?

I for one welcome our new Commissar!
