Republican soy bean farmers here in Arkansas who voted for him are kind of annoyed that their livelihood has tanked.
The deal with high tariffs on solar cells is that some Americans will build factories and make money making solar cells.
Little guys who install solar cells have lost their jobs.
Do you sacrifice the little guys so that wealthy guys can make more money?
Apparently so.
The Republican party has no place for you anymore. The party is irredeemable at this point. GWB and Reagan were no better than Trump. I’m sorry if I come across as an asshole, but I am sick of this cycle of horror this country has been going through for almost 40 years.
Cycle as I’ve seen it.
Republicans nominate regressive monster
Democrats don’t take opponent seriously
Through a combination of depressed turnouts/voter suppression and fraud Republican wins (despite not winning popular vote)
Country goes to shit over 8 year horror show
Republicans fail so hard that a Democrat wins the presidency
Democrat quietly normalizes horrific prior Republican president policies and tries to reach across the isle to attract mythical Republican moderates to their side at the detriment of the Democratic base (ex. Obama attempted Grand Bargain)
Backfires when Republicans act in bad faith and Democratic constituency checks out
Cycle repeats and new horror show is elected
Democrats become nostalgic to prior Republican president
I’m sure someone with a political science degree will poke holes in my post. But I am terrified that 15 years from now Democrats will be praising Trump when Hitler von Mussolini gets elected.
I agree with this completely. Trump isn’t the problem, he is a symptom of the problem by making it about Trump, we are letting the GOP off easy. They’ve already developed fucking amnesia about the Iraq war, Sarah Palin and Watergate.
Trump’s strategy as POTUS, and in his own business prior to that, is to bully and bluster, with no strategy backing it up. He has always seen every transaction as, “One person wins, one loses, and so I’m going to make it look like I won.” He is all opening and no middle or end game.
Then I would have to say you aren’t really a Republican. You can call yourself a Republican, and you can stay registered so you can vote against the worst idiots, but I bet the vast majority of Republicans would say you aren’t one.
You haven’t left the party, but it has left you. I lost my “faith” in the party way back when the religious right started taking over. Then came the teabaggers and now the Trumpistas, I don’t see myself ever going back.
Republicans tend to work that way, and in general many male legislators. They are often lawyers, and see a win/lose outcome rather than compromise.
Female legislators are said to be more open to compromise.
In a word, “no”. In two words, “fuck no”. “This situation/crisis is uniquely dangerous and exceptional, therefore exceptional powers or latitude to act need to be given to one man to solve it !” is how every parliamentary system ever became a dictatorship ; starting with Ancient bloody Rome.
Why don’t people ever fucking *LEARN *?
Because you’re still enabling them. Because the Teapublicans and the Trumpistas are the party. If you a Republican now then you can only help them stay on power and destroy our democracy.
Maybe someday the Republican Party can be rebuilt into something responsible, but the only way to get to that point is to destroy the current party completely.
The difference is in what each side means by “destroy.” And surely this isn’t the first time you’ve heard someone use the word in this context.
The Repiblican Party is a white supremacist, racist, sexist, fascist, anti-democratic, authoritarian, theocratic, kleptocratic, revolutionary political cult. Why do I need any particular “right” to wish for its destruction?
When you suspend the rule of law and replace it with the rule of men, the Supermen in charge inevitably make enemies - the enemies being people who oppose them. That’s what you don’t understand. When someone in power makes enemies, it’s no longer about what’s best for the greater good; it’s about survival of the regime. This is the road we’re going down right now: the survival of the regime.
Understand something: ideology doesn’t matter. When you decide that he’s crossed one of your boundaries, the authoritarian won’t give two shits. Speak out and you will be the enemy. Your votes for Republican party candidates in previous elections won’t matter because authoritarians find ways to rig elections too. In fact, that’s what they dedicate themselves to. Finding ways to legitimize illegitimate, disqualifying behavior.
We are very, very close to the brink. We’re very close to the end of the American state as we know it.
Well, what you wrote is profoundly ignorant, so I assumed an intelligent person wrote it because he was paid to do so by the Russian intelligence services. My apologies for being so optimistic.
Let’s see, you wrote
Let’s start with China, can you demonstrate that anything Trump has done has made the situation with China better? First tell me a) what you think the problem is and b) how Trump’s actions have improved that problem.
As for the terrorist state of Syria, what have we done? You do realize that we are pretty much now following Russia’s lead in Syria and have eased up on Assad, helping to keep him in power? You also realize that US forces in Syria were attacked by Russian mercenary forces and we really didn’t do much about it? Also, do you realize that before we attacked Syrian forces, we tipped them off through the Russians and we only did minimal damage that they were able to repair quickly?
As for Iran, once again, I ask you a) what is the problem and b) how is Trump making that problem better? You do realize that by walking away from the Iran deal, Iran is more likely to continue to develop nuclear weapons?
You can see why I wanted to believe that you were really a Russian troll, it’s less depressing than the fact that people like you exist and vote.
