Republicans' war on transgender people: Omnibus thread

I think we’re aware it’s a form of genocide. And it won’t just be trans people caught up in the next “gender non-conforming” cis people will also be harassed, threatened, denied public accommodation and use of the toilet, and so forth. Which many of these evil people will think is a feature and not a bug.

Worse. They believe it’s their God-given right to harass, threaten, and actually attack people who, they believe, are not the “right kind of people”.

And they will claim the abuse is given out of “love” because they just want what Jeebus think is best for you, can’t you see they’re torturing you for your own good? Ungrateful wretch!

Really, I find these people terrifying not because I’m trans but because I don’t know who they will target next.

I find them disgusting because they target any group at all, but unlike a lot of people I have a visceral understanding that one of the non-them groups I fall into might be the next one in the crosshairs.

…I don’t think most people are aware,TBH. I think most people think genocide is something that “happened in the past”, “happens to other people”, and involves concentration camps and exterminations. It isn’t something that happens in “your own backyard.” It isn’t something that happens in “the land of the free.” Most don’t understand the speed and scope of how everything is progressing right now, and that the intent of these laws isn’t just to make it inconvenient for trans people, but to legislate them out of existence.

Quite. It is a way of saying “don’t let us see you existing: make yourselves disappear or we will move on to doing it for you.”

I would guess no longer - Arrowhead in Kansas City had troughs, but they got removed during renovation (apparently no longer allowed per code). Much complaining, you can get a lot more people peeing in trough than separate urinals.

But if two men see each other’s penises, it might turn them g-g-g-gay! Or worse, trans!

It’s just too risky.

This is what success looks like:

The owner of Houston’s sole lesbian bar says she was denied insurance coverage for her business because it hosts drag shows — a denial she says is in part due to Texas’ proposed anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

“She emailed me back, and she forwarded this email from an underwriter. … The first sentence in [the email] said, ‘We will not write this risk due to drag,’” Mabry said.

Its particularly insidious because their claim isn’t just that Trans people are bad and should be eliminated, its that trans people never existed in the first place. Genocide? What genocide? How can you have a genocide against trans people if there are only two genders. You might as well complain about a genocide against Leprechauns.

They still have them. There are fewer and more stalls, but there are still troughs. With the amount of beer drank, they make it a lot quicker and shorten lines.

It’s like a variant of sundown towns. Only, it’s T-word (slur) don’t let the sun set on you in this state, rather than N-word, and town or county.

I wonder how this is going to work. Before this law, there was/is a multistate compact for juvenile jurisdiction. All of the states agreed on how and when a state would have jurisdiction over a child. If there’s an existing custody agreement from one state, then I think typically a different state would not be allowed to take jurisdiction over the child except in certain circumstances when the child is present in the other state. I’m not remembering all the details, but I’m wondering if FL just blew up that compact.

How are they planning on enforcing it anyway? Are they going to send Florida State Troopers to New York to kidnap a child from legal custody?

…I suspect the Florida parent would be on their own to get their child back to the state (be that through private security firms, or own their own) and once they are back there the state level protections would kick in. I’m no expert, obviously, but I"m gonna guess that would be in violation of a whole host of federal laws, but I think by this point they are beyond caring about minor stuff like that. :frowning:

On another front…

(This should be a gift link)
Librarians used to be exempt from laws about providing obscene literature to minors, to make sure that they could stock accurate books about sex ed, for instance. Not any longer. Harsh “obscenity” laws are designed to keep queer literature away from children. Wouldn’t want the little darlings to learn that anyone might not be heteronormative. These laws are broader than just “transphobic”, but surely target trans information, too.

Of course a book that describes a dude’s dick as being donkey sized and his cum shots being the envy of horses somehow isn’t on their list . . . curious isn’t it?

That’s simply an apt description of the red blooded 'Murican male.

Eh, that may be illegal, too. Doesn’t matter, so long as we can make sure to keep the dangerous stuff away.

And there will always be some “wrong kind of people”, because they need someone to harass. The cruelty is the point.

It’s long been a tenet of homophobes that the way to prevent men from turning gay is to make sure they see lots of penises. No, I don’t get it, either.

Reminds me of one of Ron White’s routines when he mocks homophobes.

Linked upthread. Not the typical “redneck comics tour” fodder. I think old Ron may be pretty smart.
