Coming from Italy I got my dick unwantedly inspected by a doctor when I was in middle school… This was for medical reasons but if Ohio is doing this just for political reason I think that might be yet another way to throw shit at the LGBT community
My older daughter’s (public) high school had a graduation dress code that forbade girls wearing pants - in 2008! I was prepared to go to the mat for her on this one, but the activities director told me, “I’m pretty sure I’ll be too busy to inspect the ankles of honor students” and the dress code was changed the following spring. That’s the difference, of course, that a reasonable school makes changes when an antiquated rule is challenged, but I’d thought we’d win that battle in the 70’s
…just a quick credit when due: a big shout-out and thanks to Republican Senator Fred Mills who voted against Louisiana House Bill 648, killing the bill. The Republicans had a one seat majority.
Some stores and malls here in Florida have bathroom guards, for example Ross (not sure if they have them in other states). Many others have bathroom keys so the employee has to give you the right key.
It seems to be a bad summary of the law by Banquet_Bear’s cite. From what I can tell - and not a lawyer here - it only applies when the child is physically present in the state, and custody has already been determined in the petitioner’s favor.
I.e. if mom (or whoever) has physical custody, then loses legal custody, normally the courts would not need to issue a warrant for physical custody of the child. But the legal guardian can petition the court for a warrant if they can show a risk of mom (or whoever): fleeing the state with kid, or harming the kid. The new law adds medical transitioning to that list.
I’ve seen keys at convenience stores and gas stations. I can’t recall ever seeing a bathroom guard in the US. I guess the lady who takes your coin and checks to make sure there’s soap and toilet paper in many European restrooms is a guard, too.
Most of the grocery stores near me have changed their signage to have two unisex restrooms, instead of the men’s and women’s room they used to have.
Maybe it’s a regional thing? In my hometown mall the food court mall cops have been stationed at the bathroom entrances since I was a toddler. I always presumed it was to discourage drug use. Likewise many department stores have an attendant for the fitting rooms, and some require the attendant to unlock the bathroom for you. To make sure you aren’t shoplifting I guess.
Ross is the only national chain I can think of with the latter scheme. I don’t think I’ve encountered it outside of Florida, and within memory I’ve been to a few department stores in Missouri.
People might see that her ankles were covered by her pant cuffs, instead of bare or covered only by stockings/pantyhose like God intended!

And yeah, they’re the ones so concerned about what’s under the gowns. Their critics are saying, who cares what clothes they have on? You can’t really tell anyway.
Even if they made provision for her to change in private, how can they think it’s more appropriate for her to walk in underwear than pants? It’s humiliating someone and making them be clothed very inappropriately to give the illusion of wearing a skirt. I wonder if they’d have been OK with her wearing shorts.
It’s exactly like those idiots who, when they believe women are not being “modest enough”, rape the women. Of course, the rapists is not being “sexually pure” or “chaste”, but that’s okay since they need to do that to exact the “proper” punishment on the woman.
It’s no longer hyperbole to refer to the Republican party as America’s Taliban.
Where do you live? Because that’s absolutely bizarre. What sort of society is that? How long have you needed guards on bathrooms there? I have literally never heard of this before.
Fitting room attendants are pretty universal, I guess. I’ve lived in a few places in the US and I’ve always encountered them.
The only place where I’ve ever run into bathrooms with keys are small gas stations and the like. Sometimes fast food places in sketchy areas might have a bathroom code that you only get if you order food, to discourage homeless people and/or junkies from doing drugs or vandalizing them. But as I said, those are bad areas typically with that kind of policy. The grocery store I do most of my shopping at these days has a problem with people misusing their restrooms after hours and lock the door to the public now from 9PM-7 AM.
There are keys for some public restrooms around here, especially cheap restaurants in poor neighborhoods. It’s got nothing to do with trans issues, more about “restrooms are for paying customers only.”
