No, we’re arguing we should trust medical professionals and the research community’s broad consensus rather than the ravings of a handful of bigoted assholes who have made their hatred of trans people clear.
Too quickly? It’s been the case for all of recorded history that parents can make medical decisions for their children. Where we “got too quickly” is where we’ve been for millennia.
Cite, please?
You have not pointed to a single source from any expert, in this thread. And yes, there can be some debate about precisely who counts as an expert, but the kind of folks your citing have no expertise other than walking around in signboard all the time. Walking around in signboard does not make one an expert. It doesn’t even make someone debateably an expert. It confers no expertise whatsoever.
Sigh. Again. I’m not interested in what the Republicans (of which I am not one) are doing. I’m trying to asses what they should do. And again, for the hard of reading, the video is a recitation of how we got here, starting with the first time a trans kid was administered puberty blockers. But I can see how important it is for you to cling to what you think the current scientific consensus is. See ya. Maybe light a candle and find a soft pillow to hug.
You are also trying, and repeatedly failing, to correctly spell “assess.”
Then what the heck are you doing in this thread? If you want to say, “I’m not sure about the consensus and if my son came out and announced he was actually my daughter, I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving her puberty blockers.” Then cool, that’s between you, your daughter, and their doctor. You can also decide if they should get prozac for their depression or get their deviated septum corrected.
What we are talking about is the Republican’s war on transgender people, which is not about science but is purely about bigotry.
Cute. See ya later, troll!
Is your bigotry and hatred a life-long thing, or did it develop over the years?
No, he’s correctly describing the source of his information
As I’m sure you know, I was talking about the science behind trans care for kids. It’s fairly new, with very little research done as to potential negative effects. At least two seem concerning and need more study: the effects of puberty blockers on bone density and brain development.
That’s what I’m trying to figure out. As are many experts. The cites I provided go into some of the concerns.
That’s not true. And it’s not that Billboard Chris is an expert, but his site is a source for some of the science. The case worker from the clinic is very knowledgeable. The doctor from Finland is an expert. The doctor who put together the video chronicling how we got here seems to know what he’s talking about. More important, one can simply assess whether his facts are correct or not. Again, I’m getting the feeling that you and others will not agree that anyone who does not embrace what you already believe is not—cannot—be an expert.
Ok, and if I did so, and compared the claims he makes to other sources, and found that the other sources agree with each other but disagree with Billboard Chris’ source, then does that mean that:
- I should conclude that Billboard Chris and the source he cited were wrong
- I should conclude that there is a vast conspiracy supressing sources that side with Billboard Chris; only a small handful of these sources bravely persevered and shared this information despite pressure from the Trans Lobby, but they are drowned out by a sea of Trans Shills
I think that if Magellian0 saw this trident commercial his conclusion would be to ban sugerless gum.
Bully for you for taking an interest in this specific disease. But I don’t care about your opinion.
I’m not an expert on any medical treatments. That’s why I go to a doctor. My doctor gets guidance from his hospital. His hospital gets guidance from professional associations.
That’s all you need to know. At no point do I need you or politicians interfering in this relationship. I don’t need to read every dissenting opinion and weigh the information myself for the reasons stated above.
Just stay the fuck out of the medical care for my child. Please?
That may or may not be true. It’s tricky business trying to assign motives. Question: if it turns out that the people I’m citing are correct, and in the next couple years research is done to convince the experts that currently agree with you, and changing how we treat trans kids improves things, how would you defend your position that the Reps’ efforts to change things was due purely to bigotry and not their greater openness to entertain the new thinking in the field?
Not really. For instance, we know your motives for posting bigoted claptrap in this thread.
Their efforts then are based on their ability to see into the future?
Remarkable.
My vote would be to not conclude anything. This is a new field and there is very little science behind any of it. I would suggest that you take it all in, and given that there is a such a strong prevailing narrative, be particularly open to information that goes against the grain by people in the field who you can have a high level of confidence in that they are not transphobes. The case worker is a good example. She’s a lesbian who chose to work with trans people and is married to a trans man. None of that means she’s unimpeachable, but certainly not due to transphobia.
Ok, so, I have a website showing that the Earth is flat. I have many other sources that disagree. I’m going to hold off judgement, take it all in, not trust the strong pervailing narrative, be particularly open to informarion that goes against the grain by people in the field who I have strong confidence are not Sphereophobes.
I guess we just can’t conclude anything about the shape of the Earth.
Thanks for proving me correct! Here’s a cookie:
Considering the absolute crap you have posted as “reliable cites”, I have grave doubts in your ability to tell a cookie from cow shit.
This is a bad analogy. Do you really think that the science around current trans care for children has the same level of confidence behind it as our belief and evidence that the earth is round? Come on.
