Republicans' war on transgender people: Omnibus thread

For anybody who does want to be more systematically informed about the Republicans’ war on transgender people, the Trans Legislation Tracker site is very useful.

Only the left one counts, I think.

There’s a tiny grain of truth, which is of course being wrongly portrayed. But they didn’t make it up whole cloth…

And now we have Candace Owens calling Native Americans cannibals and druggies after she was informed that there have always been Native American/First Nations Transgender people.

Candace Owens, a far-right commentator, dismissed the historical existence of transgender individuals and denigrated Native American culture during a heated exchange with a young attendee at a recent event.

Video of the interaction was brought to light by journalist Victoria Brownworth, who posted a clip on X, formerly Twitter.

“Candace Owens responded to a young woman challenging Owen’s anti-trans rant by pointing out Native American Two Spirit people existed. Owens goes off on her, calling Native Americans cannibals and drug users. Shocking, racist, and vile,” Brownworth wrote.

Thing is, she probably feels that because of who she is, she’s immunized from rebuke for calling the native inhabitants of a continent savages and cannibals. This is fucked up even beyond Trans issues.

Does partly-Caribbean-American Owens know where the word cannibal comes from?

And that’s not going into European and African native cannibalism…

Florida again. It just keeps getting worse. FUCK Ron DeSantis.

West Virginia has passed a “Women’s Bill of Rights”, but it doesn’t mention healthcare, abortion or pay increases.

Sounds like a Bill of Wrongs.

Utah official accuses 16-year old female athlete is transgender but when called on her nonsense, she actually blames the Transgender community.

A Utah state school board member is facing widespread condemnation and calls to resign after she shared a post on social media that appeared to suggest a 16-year-old girl on her school’s basketball team is transgender.

Natalie Cline, a member of the Utah State Board of Education, posted earlier this week on Facebook a flier for a high school girls’ basketball team in Salt Lake County, suggestively writing: “Girls’ basketball…” The post has since been deleted.

&

Cline apologized on Facebook on Wednesday, acknowledging that her post created a “firestorm” around the teenager and that “derogatory comments about the player were made.”

She also defended her intent saying that the girl “does have a larger build, like her parents,” and did not suggest she would resign.

“We live in strange times when it is normal to pause and wonder if people are what they say they are because of the push to normalize transgenderism in our society,” she wrote on Facebook.

Did you catch that? It’s the Transgender community’s fault for creating the strange times in which we live that normalizes Cline’s stunt. Absolutely shitty “apology”.

She should resign

And, yes, I did search to see what party she cleaved to. That’s why this post is in this thread.

“If trans girls weren’t around, I wouldn’t even have to imagine things and comment them out loud.” Damn. Do y’all get a vibe that unsaid in the background of that “strange times” quote is the thought "back when I was in school, we would have just called her a butch dy**" ?

And harassed the poor girl mercilessly.

Cline has a rather overly strong, masculine jaw. Not that I’d start a rumor or anything; that would be wrong.

Isn’t that chin/jaw something that’s very strong in people with certain Mormon ancestry? That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw her photo. Nothing I know much about — just scuttlebutt I picked up reading old threads on that sister wives show.

No idea - the scuttlebutt sounds a bit like confirmation bias from viewing a small sample size.

One piece of good news: The governor and lieutenant governor (also Republicans, of course) are coming down pretty hard on the bigot.

Not that they’re all that, either: He did sign a “bathroom bill”, and took other anti-trans measures. But apparently he does still have a line he won’t cross.

And that line is evidently attacking a non-trans person.

Unless it’s a new governor, he also refused to sign a bill forbidding trans girls to play in girls sports teams, citing the lack of any trans girl athletes in the state.

Georgia state senator behind proposed anti-trans “bathroom bill” approaches a family in the state house and tells an 8-year-old girl he’s working to protect her.

He then learns the girl is trans, upon which he claims he’s being “attacked” and runs off.

OMG – trans cooties! Run away! Run away!

Proposed Missouri bill would fine and imprison teachers and school counselors that support transgender students’ social transition.
