Requiem for Ralph - A Spontaneous MMP

Chicago had some kind of all-night festival going on tonight, called Looptopia, so some of us went to go check it out. So. Lame. Basically a whole lot of people aimlessly wandering around, looking confused. Have no idea what events they had planned but outside, at least, there was nothing going on.

Some guy we passed on the street was obviously as frustrated as we were - he was shouting something at us as we walked by, but we only got the tail end: “. . . and I’m not even getting laid!!” Join the club, dude.

So tired, have been drinking since 1pm. Nighty night.

I should still be asleep. But my bladder demanded emptying at 3:45, and my brain wouldn’t let me fall back to sleep afterwards. Doggies have been taken out and all critters are fed. I’m letting **FCD ** have his last few minutes of sleep before we head to Upper Marlboro.

It’s gonna be a long day - I kinda forgot about taking food, and the grocery stores won’t be open this early. Oh well, I’ll figger something out.

Happy Saturday, all!

Good mornin’ y’all! I’m up and caffienatin’ too. Shortly I shall purty up and pack a bag to go up to mom’s for the weekend. We’re havin’ a family cookout this afternoon and tomorrow I’ll go to church with mom. I’m hangin’ out til Monday mornin’ so I may or may not post anymore ‘til I get home Monday. Try to behave yourselves. No pushin’ and shovin’. No wild parties. No stayin’ up past bedtime. Eat your veggies. Don’t leave the house without wearin’ clean underwear. Don’t put that in your mouth, you don’t know where it’s been!

nashii it’s cloudy and smokey here too today. Apparently the winds shifted ESE again and we’re gettin’ more peat bog fire smoke. Loverly! The good news is there’s a pretty good chance of some rain today and a couple days next week. We need to do appropriate and inappropriate appendage crossin’ for rain. We have had no rain thus far for the month of May.

gt try to think of it as not so much TMI as me sharin’ the joys of my life.

ETA: Hope you sell lots of stuff FCM!

I’m up and need to get out of here pretty soon. Otherwise, I’d be starting the party swampy didn’t want us to have without him!

Hope sales go well, FCM.

GT

Morning, all.

Attacks Husband went out for dinner with us last night. Pregnant Lady (me) demanded something more substantial than black bean soup for supper. They escorted me to a nice restaurant, and attacked each other repeatedly on the subway. They enjoy the challenge of attacking plus subway movement.
There’s a big rummage sale at a nearby church, so I’m going to go to it and look for useless crap. After breakfast, which will probably involve cake and yogurt. If I find anything really ugly I’ll buy it and take pictures. Maybe.

Good morning everyone, I’m finally up and drinking my coffee.

We were going to take the boat out this morning, but Mr. Taters has managed to put a honker in his back. He woke up with it and is in pain. I’ve given him some Motrin and hopefully, that will help. If we can’t head out in the morning, we’ll head out in the evening to do some evening fishing.

The hubby is a little angry though, because he really wanted to do some wakeboarding today. Oh well, maybe we’ll catch some nice trout. We better. Fishing licenses are getting spendy.

I saw that wreck they had on that bridge over near FCM and MT. All I could think was “I sure hope neither of them were anywhere near it!”.

We had our own strange road tragedy yesterday on Interstate 5. TWO of a semi’s tractor tires CAME OFF, bounced over the median, and smashed right into the passenger side of a van going the opposite direction. The poor guy in the passenger seat was killed instantly.

The weather looks very nice actually, but it’s supposed to top out in the low 60s today. I hope it’s a little warmer than that.

Other than that, nothing exciting going on here. Actually, that’s a good thing. I’ll have to head to the store at some point and get some fixin’s for tater salad and stuff.

My daughter asked us a funny question at dinner last night. She asked if we were having our “last meal” what would we eat.

My son said “Mom’s lasagne”. My daughter said “Mom’s tater salad, baked potatoes with all the fixings, and pierogies”. At which point my son said, “Ooh! I’d have to have that too!” The hubby listed rib eye steak among his choices.

It’s nice when your cooking is appreciated.

Guess I’ll cruise the Dope a little.

Ooh! I hope you sell lots of stuff FCM!

<checks clock> Afternoon, all. I slept waaay in this morning; I’ve been short on sleep all week, so I stole a bunch from everybody and made up for it. I feel MUCH more human as a result.

Papa Tigs and I played hooky last night and went to Delaware and went gambling. I don’t know how he does it; he managed to make $600 on a penny machine. I broke even, so we had an excellent night. And we discovered that although that casino has the single nastiest buffet of any casino in the entire universe, they’ve been hiding a yummy steak-and-seafood place upstairs; so we had a fabulous dinner. And paid for it with $15 of comps. They write off 75% of your check, apparently, if you pay with comps. Considering that Papa Tigs had a seafood pasta – shrimps, scallops, and clams – and I had a big dish of jumbo lump crab, with asparagus and broiled portofino mushrooms on the side, to have our dinner for $15 struck us both as seriously reasonable.

So now I’m sitting here trying to make myself work. I’ve done okay thus far, but I have to keep my nose to the grindstone today to make up for blowing off yesterday. But I was at the point of incipient burnout if I didn’t stop for a while, so making some $$ was definitely a better idea than sitting here staring at my 'puter not working!

That means, of course, that I can’t spare the time to go to FCM’s craft show today. :frowning: Oh well, next time for sure!

I hope she meant N.O.T. salad. or else  .

It’s warm and humid here, after having rained this morning. I just had a blackened chicken sandwich for lunch, and about to take Maggie Wonderbeagle for her afternoon stroll.

All in favor of Sage Rat doing the next MMP?

AYE!

Opposed?

::crickets::

Evening, all! (How very “Dixon of Dock Green”…) It’s been a busy day here although I could have done without it being so.

I’ve still got The Sick although it can’t make it’s mind up what it wants to be. I was in bed early last night but woke up around 1am and couldn’t get back to sleep so I went downstairs to get a drink and decided on Lemsip with a couple of shots of whiskey for company. Slept pretty well after that! I got woken up at 9am by 'im indoors 'cos he’d set his alarm to get up. He’s gone down to Reading today for a get-together with some folks he used to work with down there, so I was awake relatively early. Spent the morning laying on the sofa with the fuzzbutts for company, working up the energy and enthusiasm to go round to my friend’s place after lunch to thrash out costume plans.

Things never go according to plan when Gill’s around though - we ended up taking her sick hamster to the vets, then going to the DIY store to try and decide whether conduit piping, hosepipe or curtain track would make the best padding for our outfits. Still no decision there although hosepipe is coming out pretty well.

After that we took in a couple of material stores, found some good material in the first place we tried but decided they didn’t have enough of it. So we went elsewhere and found exactly the colour we wanted, and I also bought part of ‘im indoors’ birthday present. He wanted a wok, but it had to be bigger than the one we’ve already got so I decided to buy the biggest one I could find. Ever tried wrapping one of those beggars?!

So although the costumes are still unplanned and we can’t start sewing them for 3 weeks, I have the rest of his birthday present and we’ve bought most of the material we need. The silver stuff we want can be acquired later, as can the hosepipe and other bits.

I’ve just had a long soak in a hot bath, accompanied by a glass of wine. Time to get my jammies on and think about stir-frying my dinner. Then I get to choose which bits of crap TV to watch until 'im indoors comes rolling home.

Ow. My back.
I just planted a whole bunch of little annuals (petunias, impatiens and such) in a little trench type of operation along the front walk from the door to the driveway. I had to go about 6-9 inches down, about 18" wide for a 25 foot length. THEN fill and mix in some planting soil, stick plants in, and apply mulch.

NOW, I get to go do the lawn.

Someone tell me why I neglected to refresh the beer supply this morning at the grocery store?
Ow.

Back home, showered and fed. MamaTigs, you didn’t miss anything. It was less a craft show and more a crap show. I swear, half of the vendors stocked their booths from Oriental Trading Company. In the booth to the right of me, the lady made jewelry - that counts as a craft. To the left, that woman bought baskets and filled them with Avon and other sundry stuff - I guess the crafty part was wrapping them in cellophane and tying with a bow.

Bottom line, I grossed $59, and after paying $30 for the booth, the gave me way lots less than I spent making the shelves, let alone the supplies for the pots. I sold some that I almost didn’t take because I thought they were ugly, including 2 that I intended to re-glaze, so that was cool. And while I was sitting there, I was messing around with pinch pots and coil building. One man looked at the pinch pot cat I made and ordered 3 of them! And the basket lady said if I made teapots, she’d buy them for her baskets (they both took cards.) Plus another woman came and asked if I’d be interested in teaching at a senior center. I told her to ask again after I retire.

I took pics of my booth and the “parade” - I’ll upload them shortly.

Good thing **SageRat ** is doing the MMP - I got nothing. Except I do have ice cream - think I’ll enjoy a bowl now.

Pics of pots and parade.

Purty stuff, FMC! I love the confetti pot.

I have a new puppy! Y’all remember the little poodle that’s been hanging around? We offered to buy him. He’s such a cutie!

Congrats on your new family member, Rebo! So what is his name, or are you going to change it? He’s a cutie!

I’m glad I didn’t come, FCM, if the festival was that big a fizzle. As it is, my weekend schedule got thrown in a cocked hat earlier anyway – my first cousin, who I haven’t seen in (counts on fingers) about 28 years now, is in D.C. for a wedding and wants to get together. It shouldn’t have been a complete surprise since she sent me an email last month – but alas, my mother gave her my old email address so i never got it. So it was a total out-of-the-blue call today, to put it mildly.

So anyway, we’re going to go meet them at their hotel tomorrow midday and go see the Museum of the American Indian for a bit. Then I’ll have to come home and work again. Which is exactly ALL I’ve been doing today, too, especially since she called.

I may need to talk to you about special ordering some cool food bowls for the Idiots. We need to replace their bowls, and I’m thinking something handmade would be fun!

Bleh. I have a headache. Took a couple of Tylenols though, so hopefully they will kick in soon.

I’m in PC.Doctor mode today, as I’m working on a client’s PC. (Repeat business rocks.) His daughter’s, actually. It has become unbootable. I managed to finagle my way into Windows only to find that she’s been running it A) Without any virus software, and B) with file sharing software installed. So I’m running a virus scan on it right now. So far it’s found almost a dozen trojans. That’s pretty low, all things considered; the first time he brought this machine to me there were many dozens.

Rebo - Congrats on the new doggie! I’m sure he’ll have a much better home now.

BusDude - You forgot the beer? Well, no wonder your back hurts. You needs you some liquid muscle relaxant.

Oooh, I love the teapot. You make the prettiest pottery, FCM.

Made Asian-inspired chicken wings from the Domestic Goddess’s website - it’s my 4th time trying that recipie and my brother said they taste better than the first attempt, which is good, I suppose. Funny how grad school has driven me to cook. I never realized how therapeutic it can be. The odd thing is that it kills my appetite. I like watching other people devour the stuff, though.

Maaaaaaaaaaaybe I’ll get some thesis stuff done before I collapse on my bed.

His name is Ernie. Like from My Three Sons? He’s our adopted son. Except we have two boys and a girl.

He’s trying to help me type right now…

So sorry I couldn’t make it to Marlborough Day, FCM! Your works look great, btw - I’ve definitely got a jones for the pink and peach pots. Sad too, isn’t it, that I couldn’t identify any of the folks in that parade - and they’re my local pols! Well, I did just get my jury duty money that they provide for food, parking, etc. Oooh, now I’m flush! LOL

We just had thunderstorms roll through, along with some needed rain; it’s supposed to cool off some too, making tomorrow (Mother’s Day) sunny and just right. It had gotten rather humid the past few days, uncomfortably so. Heh, guess I just am not ready for that stuff yet.

Congrats on the poodle pup, Rebo! They are intelligent and loyal, and their fur/hair is one of the least allergenic.

Hope you’re feeling better, BooFay; the soak and wine sounds like just the thing.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mothers out there.

Home from work, and my back hurts too. Back for an all day shift tomorrow.

FCM, sorry the craft show sucked. Those are nice pieces. Even better that the FairyChatMug, and that rocked.

Rebo, cool pup. Looks kind of like my Aunt Mary’s new pup.

MBG, you forgot the beer?. shuuuuuuuunnnnnnn!!!

You should come down to Hyde Park and help us finish our keg. We got one for the bbq we had yesterday, and it’s still pretty full. After my last post I sat down and seriously was just about to open my thesis file when I got a call from my friends demanding that I join them and help finish the keg. I just got back after playing 6 rounds of drinking games and that sucker is still not empty.

Oh yeah, obliagtroy drunkn post fulll of looooooooove!
