Minefield great OP! My first dog was Lady, a tiny thing who loved my tiny self so much. She died in having puppies, and my aunt kept one, and Snoopy (her puppy) died when I was in college, at the ripe old age of 17.
My first cat, Madam, was killed by a bat.
Nava I am avoiding all hockey news, because here in Australia I can’t watch it the games, so following the news just makes me sad and homesick. My Wings were still in it last week when I could bear to take a peek, but the suspense kills me so I just don’t watch. I haven’t been home in two years.
Speaking of dogs, mine has been threatened by some guy who lives nearby. He’s started barking (which he never did much of before) because my next door neighbor has gotten new cats that are outdoors only and hang out in our yard. I’ve asked the neighbor to control her cats, but she doesn’t. It’s a mostly industrial neighborhood. The Strange Scary Guy (SSG) has been by three times, and I’ve tried to explain to him that we’re keeping Yoshi in at night as much as possible, but during the day he must be outside. We’ve been here more than a year, this is a recent problem. I’ve reduced Yoshi to longer leash walks and 10 min bursts outside at night and he’s never out after 9pm, plus, we’ve been working on getting him trained not to bark - which, as I said, we never did before because he never barked before!
So anyway, SSG came by once, and I tried to explain to him what was going on, but he said it just “pissed him off” and he wanted to complain to the council, so I said fine. We made more of an effort to keep Yoshi inside, but he has to be out during the day when we’re at work. We also take him to the dog park three or four times a week. The second time, I was in the shower and he said something to my 11 year old and scared the crap out of my kid, which pissed ME off, but I don’t know his name or where he lives!
Fast forward to this weekend, and SSG turns up (fortunately) when my husband, The Great Hairy One, was home. TGHO had words with him, because frankly, we know its annoying and we are working on it and the guy just isn’t reasonable, and he said to TGHO that he was going to poison our dog! ::eek::
So poor Yoshi is locked in the house all day. SSG had said he had complained to the council, and so I called - really, hoping that he HAD complained so that they would put us in mediation and I wouldn’t have to cope with him on my own - but he hasn’t, actually. And, in the middle of all this, someone keyed my car, so I’m sure it’s him. Saturday Yoshi was out for 30 min, long enough for me to mop the floor.
This can’t go on - I can’t get next door to control their cats - and I have complained to the council. Yoshi is barking less but since he doesn’t get out in the yard, he’s gone all protective when he IS out there. I’ve walked him three times as much as normal, so the upside is I will probably be more fit at the end of this, but…I’m really stuck.
We are looking for a house to buy and will hopefully be gone soon, but until I can get SSG’s name or number plate, we’re hosed.
Cheers,
G
