Cleaning out my purse the other day, I saw that I had a Best Buy receipt that had a “rebate” printed on it. Since I bought a DVD player, I was entitled to a free DVD of “Reservoir Dogs.” I have to fill out this form, pay $4.95 for s/h postmark it all before 2/3/03.
Oh, and I have to pick whether I want Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, Mr. White or Mr. Blonde edition. ???
While $5 sounds like a good deal for a DVD, $5 for a bad movie isn’t a good deal.
Anyone seen the movie that can offer an opinion? And, um, which “Mister” would you recommend?
Some people (myself included) are not happy with the picture on the new Dogs DVD. For some godforsaken reason, the producers chose to totally skew the contrast, so it looks like you’re watching the entire movie with a portable sun inside your TV. They said this was how the movie was supposed to look. It did not look like this in theatrical release, VHS release, of previous DVD release.
If you’re asking about the film itself, its a good pulp novel with some great dialogue. If you don’t ‘get’ QT movies, you won’t get this one.
I loved it. It is a lot like Tarantino’s other big movie, Pulp Fiction, not plot-wise but direction and material-wise. There is a ton of dialogue, staple to any Quentin movie. It’s about a group of bank robbers, only it takes place entirely before and after the heist. Plenty of gore and violence, and there is one or two particularly greusome scenes (one was mentioned in the SDMB thread on most violent scenes in a movie). The story is quite interesting, though the movie can get pretty boring because there aren’t many scene changes.
There are some great actors- Steve Buscemi, Harvey Keitel, and Quentin Tarantino, among others. I think it was a great movie. It really depends on what you like. If you liked Pulp Fiction I’d get it. It is very different from other Heist movies like Heist or The Score though, so be forewarned. It has nothing to do with the heist, and it is pretty hard to figure out what exactly happened during the heist.
I don’t know how bad the contrast on the DVD is though, I’d put that into consideration. Overall, I’d get it for $5 even if I wasn’t sure I’d like it or not.
I paid about $20 for it on the day it was released–the Mr. Pink version. The picture quality does look a bit overexposed, and the color balance is off, but the movie itself is very good if you like heist movies with great dialog. It’s a lot like Stanley Kubrick’s “The Killing”, though the plot itself was borrowed from the Chow Yun Fat movie “City on Fire” (directed by Ringo Lam), with several scenes being lifted directly from that movie.
One of my very favorite movies. Don’t know anything about the picture quality on DVD but the movie lines and scenes are modern classics. As mentioned, it is more than a tad violent.
