At the end of the movie, after Mr. Pink runs out of the warehouse with the goods, is he being arrested in the background? or is that the sound of the police telling Mr. White( I think? ) to put down the gun and such.
The first time I watched it I thought it was the latter, although my friend disagrees.
The impression I got is Pink ran out and bumped into the cops who could indistinctly be heard telling him to surrender, then shooting him. Then the cops entered the warehouse and shouted at White, who subsequently shot Orange and was then himself killed.
The movie makes it pretty ambiguous, but for what it’s worth the special edition DVD with Steve Buscemi on the cover says that he’s the only one that survives.
And I heard, as Leaper describes, that Steve Buscemi’s cameo in Pulp Fiction was sort of supposed to be Mr. Pink on the lam. I can’t remember where I heard that, though it may have been on the DVD, too.
But I agree withDarkhold. It’s Buscemi, but it ain’t Pink (no, I’m not Tarantino so I can’t say fore sure- but c’mon).
I do believe his gets shot down by the cops. There is the sound of gunfire from outside and I think it fits with the movie as a whole: Shakespearian Tragedy.
HoldenCaulfield, what exactly does it say on the Pink DVD? Does it really say he is “the only one who survives”? or does it say something like he is the “survivor”? “Survivor” might just be meant to describe his personality- which I would deem accurrate.
A long time ago I saw some website that extracted the background noise of Pink’s encounter while the other stuff was going on. It was a while ago, but I’m pretty sure you can hear that Pink gets arrested. I tried a quick search for the sound clip, but no luck.
Well, you don’t actually see his death, or have other characters commenting on his death, but the gunfire outside the warehouse is pretty suggestive. Besides, the cops were supposed to be watching the place (though why they didn’t charge in a lot sooner still makes no sense).
Or possibly Pink escaped, became a notorious serial killer, then flew Con Air to Vegas.
I think Pink gets arrested. He’s not stupid enough to fight to the death against a number of armed cops. I rememebr listening to it once and he definitely doesnt get away with the jewels.
So maybe he’s a waiter after he gets out of jail? Mind you prison sentence would have been quite long…
AFAIR, on the Pulp Fiction DVD where Tarantino discusses the cut scenes, ie the Jack Rabbit Slim one, I think he wanted Buscemi for the Tim Roth role (pumpkin), but he was busy doing something else at the time, so he cast him as the waiter there to have him in the film.
He definetly doesnt mention anything about him being Mr Pink in PF, but he may have said it somewhere else. I think he likes to be vague with things, cf whats in the briefcase in PF and what the title of Reservoir Dogs means.
Although I know both these things have been discussed at length here and elsewhere.
I thought this would be about who shot Nice Guy Eddie when they all fire at each other at the end, because that always confused me.
After the gunshots you can hear the cops saying to Mr. Pink “Are you a cop killer? Did you kill a cop?” or something similar, indicating that he is at least still alive. I don’t know what Mr. Pink says but he sounds more indignant than hurt.
I forget which version of the DVD it is, but there is a Pulp Fiction DVD with a running caption of little tidbits of information. In his scene, the captions read that Tarintino told Bucemi to play his character as though he were Mr. Pink in hiding. Assuming the DVD commentary was legit, I’d say Mr. Pink survived, but only as an afterthought. When the movie was made, and as far as it’s concerned, I’m pretty sure he’s toast.
So, I guess what I’m saying is, believe whatever you want to believe…
At the end, Does White kill Nice Guy Eddie?
I always thought Joe(big bald guy, I think thats his name) was aiming at Orange, so White was aiming at him, and Nice Guy was aiming at White in turn. And then Pink Shot from under the ramp, got the goods and ran off.
And more related to the OP, Are the voices in the background cops talking to Pink? or White…?
As in… do you actually hear Buscemi’s voice or is it just the cops talking ambiguously to someone (as they have a view on White…)
