Resident Alien, aka Quincy, E.T

No, I noticed that as well.

Octopuses are notoriously good at scaling themselves up and down. So add some distortion to that, and camera lenses too, it’s fine.

Clearly it is an homage to all the shows that had problems matching “star” shots with “stunt” shots. Shatner’s toup goes flying, John Wayne’s toup goes flying, Buffy’s brunette and much larger stunt double goes flying…

Yeah, that was nicely timed.

Max is going to have a little sibling in 9 or so months, right?

I feel for the poor deputy dealing with her two witnesses. At least the cowboy hat and tail weren’t in view for her.

Very nice.

(Those writers!!! )

So the play in the latest Resident Alien was vastly better than the one in the latest Euphoria.

We absolutely lost it during the play’s ending song.

The one woman in the audience conveyed a perfect look of shock at the song.

I love that Asta is not the typical toothpick woman on TV.

Last episode: Oh crap, everyone on earth could be murdered and we only have 50 days to stop that from happening.

This episode: Oh, you’re daughter is in town? Let’s unhurriedly spend a few days participating in local activities that give you a chance to bond with her, no rush.

Yeah, that was a rare misstep by the R.A. writers.

My wife commented on exactly that this week, as well.

Personally, I’m harboring a secret crush on Darcy.

n/m, I thought the post date was Feb 21, not Feb '21.

I think the reason they made Darcy’s hair so…distinctive….is because there’s a lot of female characters on the show that kind of look the same.

Yeah, that was just… bad.

Last episode: Asta doesn’t want anyone to be murdered; Harry is perfectly comfortable with everyone but him and Asta being murdered. Neither wants Harry imprisoned on the surface by the feds when the murderers arrive. So Asta wants Harry to bond with his daughter to motivate him to care about humans in general, while Harry doesn’t want his daughter to report him as abnormal (and he has an unrealistic (TV-mediated) idea of how seriously the government would take a report that “dad’s acting weird” from a delinquent). Also Harry is afraid to take the next natural step on the route to saving the Earth, because he’s afraid that his people won’t like what he’s become (he was resisting going to New York even before his daughter showed up, wasn’t he?). So this week’s dillydallying has some justification.

I see this as more of a hangout show than a focus on narrative. Sure, aliens might kill everyone, but that’s not why I watch the show. I watch because Harry is a fun character performed by a great actor, and the other characters are likeable and interesting, and I want to hang out with them.

Yeah, this is a show where an alien has come to Earth to kill everyone, and is the target of shadowy government agents determined to capture him, and willing to murder to do that, and yet, his greatest nemesis-es are a couple of small town kids.

Hang the sense of it and enjoy the ride.

I still want to know why HarryHuman killed the Dr.
