For the record, I was a huge fan of the original. Even the awful sequel mini-series (V: The Final Battle), and the inevitable series-series. But hey, I was eleven.
I’ve tried to remain as spoiler free as much as possible. The only thing I’ve seen is the official trailer.
Me too! My friend and I even ran around the playground at school climbing the equipment and pretending we were escaping through the conveniently man-sized air ducts of the alien vessel!
But if there’s no Mike Donovan or Ham Tyler in this series, I ain’t watchin’.
It’s double duty for the DVR with my wife’s one-two punch of Biggest Loser and SYTYCDance, so I’m going to have to hold out hope that ABC streams it easily enough…
Ha! So did we. I remember using magic markers to color a lizard pattern on the underside of my forearm, then cover it using liquid latex and makeup before school started. Then at recess, (I always played the role of Martin*) I’d tear off the skin to achieve maximum playground geekery. I was a GOD in 1984.
That said, I doubt there’ll be any over-the-top Donovans or Tylers in this series. Maybe it’s for the best.
*I didn’t want to be Donovan, because I thought it’d be cooler to play a treasonous lizard.
 Good god. Not everything is political and you’d think someone doing a write-up of a sci-fi show would realize that “We bring gifts/change for humanity” is not exactly a new trope.
Was anyone else a bit miffed about how in that clip of the first 8 minutes that was online…
…we didn’t see anthing other than NYC? The original showed us a bunch of shots of them arriving all over the world. I understand this is an American show, but I want to see the global impact. At least setting most of the action in NYC (home of the UN) instead of LA (home of Hollywood) is a start.
